Unlike de facto (unmarried) partners, legally married dependents generally don't need to meet the 12-month relationship or cohabitation requirement.
This means you can apply as a dependent immediately after marriage, regardless of how recently you wed.
The length of your marriage has no bearing on the outcome of your application. Check the post to find out what actually does matter 🙌

Got your student visa refused? Here's what nobody tells you about reapplying after a refusal 👇
Most people assume timing was the problem. Apply again quickly, get a different outcome. Nine times out of ten, though, timing has nothing to do with it.
What actually sinks a second application is submitting basically the same one as before. Same statement, same documents, same story. And then being genuinely surprised when the refusal lands again, often faster than the first 😵
From here you really have two options. Fix your case with stronger evidence and a clearer study plan, or consider switching destinations if Australia's current visa direction makes your profile harder to approve right now.
DM us the word REFUSAL and we'll give you an honest, no-fluff assessment before you go through this again 😬

The university matters. But the city you live in can influence everything, from your budget to your future opportunities.
Most students realise this TOO late 😬
The Happy City Index 2026 just dropped, and Australia's happiest cities aren't the ones most international students are rushing to.
Sydney? Not in the top spot. Melbourne? Not number one either.
The cities where people actually feel good living (affordable, connected, balanced) are the ones flying under the radar for most students. And guess what? Those same cities come with regional visa perks, lower rent, and less competition for part-time jobs.
Happiness and smart study strategy? Turns out they overlap more than you'd think.
