✨Medieval Art - Illuminated Manuscripts✨
In this course students will be inspired by calligraphy and the detailed illustrations of animals and plants made by the nuns and monks working in the middle ages.
We'll be studying the life of the artist nun Hildegard von Bingen (1098 – 17 September 1179) as we look at a variety of illuminated manuscripts from this time. Over the term we will be transferring drawings and patterns, practicing calligraphy, designing our initials, mastering the processes of gold-leafing and sculpting our own battling bunnies of marginalia! Students will leave with their own mini Illuminated artworks and their battling bunnies sculpture.
Through the study of her paintings and other works from the time we will complete a series of delicate gold leafed watercolour and gouache paintings to form a illuminations of our own. Each day will begin with calligraphy warm up exercise as we practice medieval doodling, or 'marginalia'.
Our small class size of only 12, means that each student will get the feedback and attention they need in order to achieve their best outcome.
All materials and an afternoon tea fruit platter will be provided for each day. Please bring a nut free snack and lunch as well as a water bottle.
9.00am - 3.00pm on Wednesday 8th of July and Thursday 9th of July
This session is recommended for ages 7+
