Padbury Community Kindergarten

Padbury Community Kindergarten PCK is a warm, welcoming place where children learn through play, exploration, and connection. https://www.education.wa.edu.au/enrolling-in-school

Our nature-based environment encourages curiosity, creativity, and confidence as children build friendships and develop a lifelong love for learning. Padbury Community Kindergarten is situated in the suburb of Padbury which is in the North Western suburbs of Perth. The Teachers are Education Department staff and follow the same curriculum and guidelines as a school based Kindergarten. The program

is delivered in nurturing, caring, and play based environment. We implement evidence based, age-appropriate strategies in our delivery of the curriculum. Our large kindergarten building was purpose built in 1974, is owned by the City of Joondalup and leased to the Parent Management Committee of the Kindergarten. The maintenance and upkeep of the building is shared between the City of Joondalup and the Management Committee. You can check if your child is the correct age, using the calculator below.

🌱 Our Grass Heads Are Growing! 🌱

We have been busy planting our very own grass heads.

The children carefully planted their grass seeds and have been taking responsibility for looking after them each day. Using spray bottles to water them is also a great way to strengthen those little hand muscles and develop fine motor skills.

Now we are watching and waiting to see whose grass head gets the craziest hair!

We can't wait to see how they change and grow over the coming weeks.

Following on from our visit from Old Macdonald’s Travelling Farm, the children continued their farm learning through lots of different experiences at Kindy.

We read Rosie’s Walk and explored positional language as the children retold the story, using words such as over, under, through, around and behind.

The children also used their observation skills to create some wonderful cow and chicken drawings, looking closely at their different features and adding lots of detail to their work.

It was lovely to see the excitement from our farm visit continue into the classroom, with the children building on their experiences through literacy, language and art.

🐮 Old Macdonald’s Travelling Farm came to Kindy!

We had a very special visit from Old Macdonald’s Travelling Farm, and as always, it was a huge hit with our Kindy children!

We’re very proud to be Old Macdonald’s longest standing customer, with their farm visits being a much loved part of our Kindy program for many years.

At Padbury Community Kindergarten, we love giving our children opportunities to learn through real, hands on experiences. Throughout the year, we include a range of incursions and special experiences as part of our program, without asking families to pay extra each time.

These experiences are made possible through the voluntary contributions paid by our Kindy families, helping us provide a rich and engaging program beyond the everyday classroom.

A big thank you to Old Macdonald’s Travelling Farm for another wonderful visit. There was plenty of patting, feeding, cuddling and excitement.

And thank you to our families for supporting our Kindy and helping us make experiences like these possible. 💚

🌿 **Growing our Bush Tucker Garden!** 🌿

A big thank you to **Bunnings** for visiting us and helping our Kindy children add some wonderful new plants to our Bush Tucker Garden.

The children loved getting their hands dirty, planting alongside the Bunnings team and learning more about our native plants.

It was a lovely morning of hands-on learning, caring for our environment and connecting with our local community.

📚 Please Help Us Grow Our Book Borrowing Library! 💛

At Padbury Community Kindergarten, we know that sharing books together is one of the best ways to foster a love of reading and build early literacy skills.

We're excited to be creating a special collection of high-quality picture books that families can borrow to enjoy at home. Each book will include simple comprehension prompts to encourage conversations, build vocabulary and help children think more deeply about the stories they read – just like a little home library experience!

If you'd like to help us build this collection, we've created a PaperBird Book Registry where you can purchase and donate a book to our Kindergarten.

Every donated book will be enjoyed by many children and families for years to come.

Thank you for helping us create a wonderful resource that will inspire a lifelong love of books and reading. 💚

Sunshine, showers, and plenty of smiles! ☀️🌧️

At Kindergarten, we know that every type of weather brings opportunities for learning, exploration, and fun. Whether we are enjoying the warmth of the sunshine or pulling on our raincoats and splashing through a rainy-day adventure, outdoor play is an important part of our program.

Through outdoor experiences, children build confidence, resilience, creativity, and a connection with the natural world around them. Watching the weather change reminds us that there is joy to be found in every season!

Community Kindergartens Need You

Did you know there is a volunteer association working behind the scenes to advocate for Community Kindergartens, support staff and committees, and promote Community Kindergartens across Western Australia?

Recent increases in grant funding for Community Kindergartens were achieved through the advocacy of dedicated volunteers. These outcomes don't happen by chance.

Today, the future of the Community Kindergartens Association (CKA) depends on new volunteers stepping forward.

Without parents, grandparents and community members becoming involved, the Association may not be able to continue its work supporting Community Kindergartens across WA.

The good news is that helping doesn't require a huge commitment (much smaller than a CK Committee!)

✅ Meetings are held online once per term ✅ A range of small and flexible volunteer roles are available ✅ No experience is necessary ✅ Attending the AGM does not commit you to taking on a role

If you value Community Kindergartens and would like to learn more, we encourage you to attend our AGM.
