土 | Soil / Earth (tǔ) 🥔🌱

Chinese characters can be so visual and meaningful — and 土 (tǔ) is a wonderful example!

This term, while learning about vegetables, our students discovered that 土豆 (tǔ dòu) — potato — literally means “bean from the soil/ground.” How interesting is that? ✨

The character 土 represents earth, ground, or soil, helping children make meaningful connections between the language and the world around them.

At Mandarin Stars, we love exploring how Chinese characters tell stories through their meanings and structure — making language learning engaging, memorable, and fun 💛

A proud milestone for Mandarin Stars today! 🌟

This morning, we successfully held our very first YCT (Youth Chinese Test) in Ardross, WA, with over 20 students participating across our Perth locations.

Despite the cold and chilly weather, we had 100% attendance — every student arrived with confidence and courage, ready to do their very best. ❤️

For many children, this was their first formal Chinese language examination, and we are incredibly proud of their effort and dedication on this special milestone in their Mandarin learning journey. 🥰

A big thank you to our teachers, parents, and students for making today such a meaningful success! ✨

加油,同学们!
Jiāyóu, tóngxuémen!

What’s the fruit? 🍎🍌🍇

This week at Mandarin Stars, our children explored the topic of fruits in Mandarin through a fun and exciting sensory tasting activity! Wearing masks, the children used their senses of taste, smell, and touch to guess what fruits they were eating — all while learning fruit names in Mandarin. 😆✨

Sensory stimulation plays such an important role in language learning, especially for young children. When children can see, touch, smell, and taste while learning new vocabulary, it creates stronger memory connections, deeper engagement, and more meaningful learning experiences. 🥰

There were so many giggles, surprised reactions, and proud moments as our little learners tried to guess each fruit in Mandarin! 🍓🍍🍉

At Mandarin Stars, we love creating hands-on learning experiences that make language learning fun, memorable, and full of discovery. ❤️

Across our Mandarin Stars locations in Perth, Melbourne, Sydney, and Online, our children have been busy creating heartfelt Mother’s Day crafts with love, creativity, and little hands. ❤️🌸

From making beautiful roses with apple slices 🍎🌹, tea cup crafts ☕, colourful handprint flower bouquets 🌼, to carefully writing:

妈妈我爱你
Māma wǒ ài nǐ
(Mum, I love you)

every activity was filled with meaningful learning moments and thoughtful expressions of love for Mama. 🥰

At Mandarin Stars, we believe language learning becomes even more special when children can connect it with real emotions, creativity, and hands-on experiences. These precious crafts are more than just artwork — they are little messages from the heart. 💖

We hope all our mums felt the warmth, love, and creativity behind every little masterpiece, and had a beautiful Mother’s Day surrounded by precious moments with family. ✨

(Happy Mother’s Day)

妈妈你真棒 ⭐
Māma nǐ zhēn bàng
(Mum, you are amazing)

Through language learning, songs, stories, and heartfelt moments, our children are learning how to express love and appreciation in Mandarin. 🥰

What a sweet and memorable Mother’s Day activity at Ardross this morning! 🌹🍎

Our little learners carefully created beautiful roses from apple slices with their tiny hands, combining creativity, sensory play, and lots of love for Mama. ❤️

As they crafted, they also learned how to express their love in Mandarin:

妈妈我爱你
Māma wǒ ài nǐ
(Mum, I love you)

Watching the children proudly prepare their special creations was such a heartwarming moment. We hope all our mums felt the love, effort, and creativity behind every little apple rose. 🥰✨

Happy Mother’s Day to all the amazing mums! 母亲节快乐!
