Kids Aquatic Survival School Quinns Rocks SWIM • FLOAT • SURVIVE
At Kids Aquatic Survival School we teach children under the age of 5 aquatic S How to reach up, grab and turn for the side.

Lessons & Techniques

From 6 months to walking age:

A baby will learn breath control (take a breath before submerging in the water). They will learn how to roll over to a floating posture from any position they would find themselves in the water. The baby will learn how to stay in a floating and breathing posture until help arrives. All the above is also taught in full winter clothing, nappy and

shoes. From walking age (around 12 months)

A child is taught breath control (take a breath before submerging in the water). How to open eyes under the water so that they can look to where safety is. How to swim (dog paddle) to the side if they are further than arms reach away. How to roll over to float and breath. How to combine swimming and floating if getting to the side is not obtainable in one breath of swimming. How to stay in a floating and breathing posture if getting to safety is not an option. All the above is also taught in full winter clothing, nappy (if not toilet trained) and shoes. What should I do when my child is finished? Keep in mind that swimming improves swimming. Therefore the more that your child swims the better they will be. With this in mind we have the following options:

Take your child in the pool as much as possible make swimming fun and encourage them to swim. At the end of the program we recommend that parents get in the pool with their instructor and get shown what to do when swimming with your child. Bring them to us on a regular basis (recommend at least once a week) for what we call Transitional Lessons. If you have any issues with your child’s swimming we also offer Refresher Lessons for people that have not had their children in the water very often. For children that are old enough normally four and a half to five we recommend Stroke Lessons

And it’s our youngest who are most vulnerable.

That’s where we step in. In as little as 6-8 weeks, we can have your little one floating and just that little more safe around the water 💦

Why do we teach babies how to float?
Simple, because floating saves lives.

Think about it, if you are caught in a rip, what are you taught to do? Float.

If you’re lost out at sea and need to preserve energy, what are you taught to do? Float.

So if our most precious children are ever in a position where they need to save themselves, we need to teach them how to float!

Floating saves lives, swimming comes next

It's been a while since we have seen such sensationalism.

Yesterday 60 Minutes shared a 2008 interview about our survival program. They misrepresented our program stating “…toddlers are learning to drown”.

Children are not learning to drown. Children are learning to SURVIVE.

The KASS survival and learn to swim program provides children with a layer of defence in the prevention of drowning. The program provides children with the opportunity to undertake progressive aquatic survival skill development that considers the experiences and activities they may be exposed to in the future. Equipping the child with a core set of skills that can be utilised in times of need to prevent further injury. These skills can also translate to all aquatic environments.

Undoubtedly it can be hard to watch your child cry or call for your help in any situation. However, it’s important to remember that a toddler who falls into the water and can’t save themselves would have a far more traumatic experience, than one who is learning survival skills with a vigilant swimming teacher standing an arms-length away.

Please head over to 60 Minutes Australia and show your support for KASS and educate others on the full facts about our survival and learn to swim program which we have been teaching for over 20 years which is SAFE and EFFECTIVE.
