It represents a great opportunity to advocate for EAL/D learners and the need for the AITSL standards to specifically recognise the teaching knowledge and skills needed for this learner group. Curtin University School of Education PhD students Marisa Schiavi has received a highly competitive scholarship through the Australian Government’s National Industry PhD Program.
Delivered in partnership with Catholic-Education Western Australia, Marisa’s research will explore how policy, institutional structures and educational practices shape inclusion for multilingual learners in Australia schools.

The project aims to generate practical, evidence-informed recommendations that strengthen leadership, professional learning and teaching practice, while supporting more inclusive and equitable learning environments for culturally and linguistically diverse students.
