Our May Volunteer of the month is... Amelia! ๐
Year 8 student Amelia, volunteered to assist at the Bindaring Clothing Sale, an annual fundraising event for the Australian Red Cross. The raised an extraordinary $344,000 this year, which will support projects assisting some of the most vulnerable members of our community across Western Australia.

๐ธ On Tuesday 19 last week, our Year 1 and 2 students led a beautiful May Day liturgy, honouring Mary, the mother of Jesus, through prayer, devotion and song.
Participating in procession, prayer, singing and the crowning of Mary in the peaceful Convent Garden, this sacred tradition was made all the more special with the presence of our Presentation Sisters.
Whilst May is a special time to focus on Mary, our devotion to her is woven through the life of the College all year long, and we are so proud our students embraced this cherished Ionian tradition.

We were thrilled to welcome Artist in Residence, for a week of inspiring workshops and live demonstrations with our Year 9 & 10 Visual Arts students.
Students explored layered glazing techniques in acrylic and oil painting while gaining valuable insight into the creative process of a professional artist.
Thank you, Jacinda, for sharing your creativity, expertise, and passion with our students!

Our Year 12 cohort hit a special milestone earlier this term, proudly wearing their new and long-awaited cardigans.
This yearโs design features a meaningful Celtic Star symbol, created by our Practical Arts Captain, Libby, honouring both the unity of the Class of 2026 and the 250-year celebration of the Presentation Sisters. The symbol also reflects our 2026 College Value on focus, Excellence, that guides our students through their final year at Iona.
A beautiful design for a wonderful cohort ๐

We are incredibly proud to share that Chloe Haagman (Class of 2025) was awarded the 2026 Catalyst - Young Visual Artist Award at the West Australian Pulse Perspectives 2026!
Chloe's artwork was selected by the Art Education Association of Western Australia, awarding her a $2,500 prize, recognising the countless hours, persistence and creative exploration invested in developing Anagram.
Reflecting on her work, Chloe explains:
โMy artwork explores the complexities of perception through the manipulation of language. The literary device anagram is a word game of perception, where the same letters can be reshuffled to create entirely new meanings.
The phrase โTHE EYESโ rearranges to reveal โTHEY SEEโ, portraying the notion that eyes are the lenses through which we view art, make judgements and form critiques. My artwork suggests that meaning is never fixed, as interpretation changes according to the perspectives and experiences of the individual.
Through hyper-realistic drawings of reflective balloon letters, I explore the subjectivity of art and perception. The reflective surfaces act like mirrors, subtly reminding viewers that interpretation is also a reflection of themselves and the contexts they bring when viewing art.
ANAGRAM suggests that art is never experienced in the same way twice. Perception is filtered through individual eyes and perspectives, shaping not only how we view art, but also how we view the world.โ
We encourage the our community and more to visit the exhibition held at The Art Gallery of Western Australia - AGWA and support Chloeโs achievement. Congratulations, Chloe!
