Our wonderful Italian Teacher, Singnora Ashkenazy has been working with a colleague in Italy to organise a new pen pal project between our students in Room 2 and a group of similar aged students who live in the town of Moncalvo, a province of Asti in Italy.
During the first few weeks of the term, our students have been busy reading their letters and writing thoughtful responses to send back to letters received over our Summer holidays.
Room 2 is looking forward to exchanging letters throughout the year and getting to know their new friends while learning more about life in another part of the world. It has been a wonderful way to practise our writing skills and make global connections!

Recently our Digital Technology teacher, Mrs Hawkesford attended the Kids in Space professional development program, delivered by and the Andy Thomas Space Foundation with support from the Australian Space Agency. 🚀
Our school is proud to be one of only 16 schools in Western Australia selected to participate. As part of the program, we will receive a 3D Design package including our own 3D printer, giving students the opportunity to bring their ideas to life through 3D design and printing.
This semester, Room 2 will be the first class to participate in the program. Students will put their design thinking skills to the test, creating space-age solutions to community problems. Their work will culminate in a student-led showcase at Joseph Banks Secondary College in June, where teams will present their designs.
The program will expand later in the year so that all of our students can explore creativity, innovation and careers in the growing space industry. 🌏✨

LAP is a student-centred and volunteer-based programme designed to assist schools with implementing one-on-one learning that supports the wellbeing and learning outcomes of their students.
MLPS has proudly been involved with LAP for over 26 years and are hoping to continue this program into 2026. To assist with this, we are currently looking for community volunteers who are able to spend one hour a week with a nominated student to mentor and guide then in various learning areas.
No experience is necessary as classroom teacher will provide suitable resources and activities for volunteers to work on with their nominated student. Volunteers must hold a valid Working with Children Check prior to commencing.

We invite staff and students to wear a pair of Fun Socks with your uniform each Friday in Term 1. Please note this is totally optional, it is just for some weekly fun and smiles.
Let’s kick off the year with some joy, laughter, and great socks. We can’t wait to see what everyone

We hope you have all enjoyed a relaxing summer break. As the holidays come to an end, we are looking forward to welcoming our students back to school on Monday 2 February and stepping into another exciting year together.
Our teachers and staff have been busy preparing the classrooms and planning activities that focus on helping students settle in, build friendships and feel a strong sense of belonging from the very first day.
We understand that the start of a new school year can bring a mix of excitement and nerves for children (and for parents as well)! Here are some tips for families to help children with transitioning from holidays into a new school year.
