A lesson in life and happiness

I was the most opinionated person I knew.
I was right, you were wrong, as if it were a competition and I needed to win πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ

My friends would throw the line in and boy would I bite. I would fight to the death that my opinion was right and I would make sure you understood.

It was exhausting.

This was me - for quite some time. But then I read a book and it hit me in the face "Be impeccable with your word" - speak with integrity and say what you mean.

We stretch, we expand, we grow!

Why did I feel that I needed you to change your mind, if I wasn't willing to change my own? WTF - good one beliefs and thoughts - that served me well πŸ™„

So I worked on me. I invested in myself and I stopped trying to change others. It is not my job to change your opinion. It is my job to share mine, if I feel pulled to, BUT more importantly, it is my job to listen to your opinion and take from it what aligns with me.

This behaviour no longer served me, as soon as I recognised this, I was able to learn and grow.

Is there a behaviour that no longer serves you? Is there a way that you could work on this behaviour and move into a space of ease and flow?

Think about it. I dare you ✌️

Lets talk emotions!

I am a firm believer that there are no such things as positive or negative emotions. What is positive or negative about them? Who decides this? πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

I prefer to talk about emotions as comfortable and uncomfortable or manageable and difficult. It is not the emotion that is positive or negative, it is what we do with the emotion that could be seen in that way (aka our behaviour!).

I love this little picture on how to manage when we experience difficult emotions. Check it out and try the steps next time you find yourself judging an emotion, or trying to numb the emotion. We need to feel to heal - sit with the discomfort - not forever, just until you can move into a place of comfort and acceptance.

There is growing evidence that indicates that emotional intelligence is a greater indicator of future success than IQ! Name your emotions. Feel your emotions. Teach your children about their emotions and share with them all about your own. A child that can name their own emotion, witness emotion in others and move through the emotion is a child that is set for life.

How do you work through your emotions? What works for you?

As those in charge signed the armistice, those in the arena that made it to the 11th hour, laid down their weapons.

Some that fought came home, most did not.

Today we remember the end of a war and the lives that were lost.

We will remember them.

🌻 To me, you matter! To me, you are inconceivably brave.

Your trauma is valid.
Even if other people have experienced "worse".
Even if someone else who went through the same experience doesn't feel debilitated by it.
Even if it 'could have been avoided'.
Even if it happened a long time ago. Even if no one knows.

Your trauma is real and valid, and you deserve a space to talk about it.
It isn't desperate or pathetic or attention-seeking.
It is self-care. It's inconceivably brave.
And regardless of the magnitude of your struggle, you're allowed to take care of yourself by processing and unloading some of the pain you carry.

Your pain matters. Your experience matters. And your healing matters.
Nothing and no one can take that away.

Lest we forget.

ANZAC Day will always stir something up within me. Pride, sadness, grief, love, compassion - so much comes up for me on this day.

Thank you to all the men, women and animals who have served, continue to serve and those who never made it home.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

May you all have a blessed Easter.

I see you.
Over there struggling.
But every day you put on that mask.
You distract from the pain, the hurt, the difficulty and manage to go on.

You go on for your children.
You go on for your partner.
You go on because you have to.
But you go on, and for that you should be proud. πŸ™

We mask so much about our past because we're not ready to process it. Drugs, alcohol, s*x, shopping, eating, p**n, gambling.

These are tools that, at the time, serve a purpose. But they also make life even harder.

To heal, we need to feel. One of my clients once said to me, therapy "hurts, but it helps"! I love the way he described it. To move forward we have to feel so that we can heal from our past.

A year ago I shared a blog I had written about trauma.

Unfortunately, the theme of trauma is still relevant at the moment with many people struggling with the constant media coverage of the many parliamentary s*xual assaults.

If you are struggling, reach out to support.

And many others. If you have a fee spare moments, feel free to read my blog.

Take care of yourselves and each other ✌

I've had a lot of similar themes lately based around peoples experiences of trauma, so I decided to write a really quick blog post to try and help people make sense of it.

I hope you enjoy it 🌻
