Last Wednesday our Year 6 School Leaders participated in the City of Cockburn ANZAC Youth Parade and Service.

The City of Cockburn ANZAC Youth Parade is one of only a handful of ANZAC youth parades held each year nationwide. Children from local schools are invited to speak, sing and pay their respects.

This year our 31 Year 6 students were honoured to be able to participate in the service and lay a wreath during the ceremony.

Blue Gum Montessori School (BGMS) was established in 1983 and is a modern, innovative Pre-kindergarten to Year 6, Primary School. BGMS is situated within the beautiful landscape of the Bibra Lake Wetlands and is fortunate to have a vibrant and welcoming community culture.

BGMS is looking for Directors to join its Board for a term of two years.

The Board is responsible for the governance of the school, including ensuring the quality of educational programs, adherence to legislative requirements, policies and regulations and setting strategic direction and vision for the school. Examples of some of the skills that Board Members can contribute are Corporate Governance, Financial Oversight, Risk Management, Strategic Planning and Early Childhood/Primary Education.

We'd like to say a very big congratulations to two of our Upper Primary students, Grace and Lilah, who have both been accepted into the highly-selective One Big Voice extension programs!

Grace is one of just 12 students across the state who have been accepted into the Dreamers Program. This program will give Grace the opportunity to work with specialist conductors, attend extra rehearsals, and even take part in a song recording!

Lilah has completed the Dreamer Program and has progressed to the next level, the Step Up Program. Step Up offers students advanced training, deeper musical challenges and the opportunity to take on leadership or featured roles during the performance.

We are incredibly proud of both girls and their continued commitment and dedication. We can't wait to see what they do next!

On Friday 6 February students, staff and families came together for our Year 6 Leaders Assembly.

This year we have an impressive 31 graduates! Most of these students have been at Blue Gum since Junior Primary. It has been so special to see them grow over the years, and we are looking forward to seeing them grow into their roles as Leaders in this coming school year!

BGMS continues to produce outstanding Literacy and Numeracy results. Performing well above NAPLAN State and National Averages.

NAPLAN has four categories:

1. Exceeding = Exceeds expectations
2. Strong = meets challenging but reasonable expectations
3. Developing = working towards expectations
4. Needs Additional Support = not achieving the expected learning outcomes

In 2025, we celebrate the following results:

Percentage of Year 5 students producing Exceeding or Strong results:
- Numeracy: 91%
- Reading: 88%
- Writing: 85%
- Grammar: 85%
- Spelling: 94%

Percentage of Year 3 students producing Exceeding or Strong results:
- Numeracy: 90%
- Reading: 83%
- Writing: 90%
- Grammar: 89%
- Spelling: 73%

Thank you to everyone who donated to our 2025 Food Drive, and thank you to our wonderful Year 6 Leaders who helped to organise and promote the Drive and assisted with the sorting and packing of the donations.

The final food drive items were collected last Thursday and Joanne from the Yangebup Family Centre was very humbled by the number of items that our community donated to this worthy cause. We averaged a total of 50 to 60 bags of much needed food items and toiletries/personal hygiene items. Thank you for being so generous!

A big thank you to everyone who participated in PJ Day on Tuesday, who helped to raise an amazing $657.20 for The Pyjama Foundation! It was so heartwarming to see so many kids, staff and parents excited to join in. Special shoutout to one dad who went all-in and showed up in full PJ Day mode! Your commitment to the cause (and the awesome PJs) definitely deserves a salute! 🙏
