This week I had the pleasure of heading out to Northam to deliver Youth Mental Health First Aid at Bridgeley Community Centre.
Itās a privilege to spend two days with people who genuinely want to learn how to show up for the young people in their communities.
A big thank you to for making it all happen.

It was wonderful to chat about the important work being done by CoMHWA and how crucial lived experience is in these spaces.

In January, I decided to leave . I announced the news publicly in March and finished my role in April.
Iām now in my first official week of full time self-employment!
I wanted to take a moment to genuinely reflect on my time at MIFA working on the project.
This role has taken me to places I never expected. I had the privilege of visiting Australian Parliament House numerous times! I worked on a huge national project, running trainings and events, and collaborating with amazing people.
When I think about what life looked like when my mental health was at its worst, itās the polar opposite of my life now.
From assuming Iād never gain employment and being unable to leave my home, to working as a Lived Experience Lead and travelling across the country!!
Iāll be forever grateful to the amazing people I worked alongside in this role and for all of the opportunities I was given.
It was a genuinely amazing experience.
But as of this week, I am self-employed, and am feeling an enormous sense of peace about my decision.

If you follow me on LinkedIn, then you probably already know.
But... I've made the decision to resign from my role at MIFA. I will be finishing up in late April 2026.
Since 2018, I've been balancing running my own business alongside working for organisations and itās been a lot to balance - especially with big life changes during that time!
So from May 2026, I'll be running Hayley Harris Training full time! Offering Mental Health Training, Peer Supervision, and Consulting Services to organisations and individuals.
I'm so grateful for my time at Mental Illness Fellowship of Australia and the incredible people I've worked alongside.
I first connected with MIFA back in 2020 as a member of the Finding North co-design group. I formally joined the MIFA team as Lived Experience Lead in 2023.
This has honestly been one of the best roles I've had in my life. I have stretched, grown, and developed in so many ways - and I bloody love the work we do!
But I'm also really excited to branch out on my own and (hopefully) strike a better work/life balance.

I recently had the joy of delivering Mental Health First Aid in Carnamah on behalf of MIFWA, thanks to the generous funding and support from CBH Group and the assistance of the North Midlands Project.
It was an incredible group of participants. We shared important conversations and some insightful reflections. My family are all from Carnamah and it was great to connect with locals, a few participants even remember my grandparents!
Hereās what a couple of people had to say:
āThis by far was the best delivery of a workshop I have ever attended. Her delivery was relaxed, understandable and humorous at times.ā
āAbsolute top-notch facilitator. Highly recommend Hayley Harris. Her engagement and facilitating style was SO much better that my first MHFA course... It has restored my belief in the value of the training.ā
Grateful to be part of communities like Carnamah where these conversations matter most. š±

I had a wonderful day yesterday training Uniting WA staff members in āReflective Supervision: A non-clinical approachā on behalf of the Western Australian Association for Mental Health
From the moment I walked into the room, I felt connected and welcomed. Itās the small thingsālike someone saying, āI love your dress, where did you get it?āāthat make a big difference.
And when I announced, āI have fidget toys for everyone!ā the room actually cheered.
The group were connected, reflective, thoughtful, and incredibly insightful.
I left feeling energised and grateful to do this work.
(I forgot to get a group photo, so hereās a selfie of me after I finished the training š)
