Decoding is essential—but it isn’t enough.

Strong reading happens when five skills work together: spelling helps children recognize words, vocabulary gives words meaning, grammar connects ideas, comprehension builds understanding, and writing makes that understanding visible.

Rereading strengthens the entire system by teaching children to check, correct, and think independently.
