A Message from the Principal
Congratulations to the Year 12’s who have just completed their examinations and best of luck to the Year 10 and 11 students who are still very much involved. This week we have observed Reconciliation Week, aligned to the national theme “All In”, recognising that everyone has a part to play, every day, in progressing reconciliation in our society.
Inclusion Coordinator Kate Reid and College Board Chair Catia Malaquias presented to a national conference on inclusive models in large secondary schools in Adelaide this week. We are still on track to process refunds to students affected by the cancellation of the March Europe Tour and awaiting the findings of the Insurance Commission of WA to proceed. Construction on the Court Place Development commences in August but the current focus is on collaboration with the City of Subiaco and the Developers to ensure a safe traffic and pedestrian management plan for our students, families and staff. Please feel free to contribute to our Business Plan consultation at https://tinyurl.com/BHCBPReview
In coming weeks students can get involved in fundraising through the DIY Big Freeze for MND and The Push up Challenge supporting mental health. Recently we have had a highly successful Biggest Morning Tea event for staff, and our P&C has generously supported a range of resource purchases that will directly impact student learning in classrooms and at events.
Have a lovely long weekend, one and all members of the Bob Hawke College community.

National Reconciliation Week 2026 – ‘All In’
From 27 May to 3 June, we recognise National Reconciliation Week — a time to reflect on our shared histories, cultures and how we can all contribute to reconciliation.
The week marks two significant milestones — the 1967 Referendum and the High Court’s Mabo decision.
This year’s theme 'All In' encourages everyone to take action every day to progress reconciliation, not just during Reconciliation Week, and reminds us that reconciliation is a shared responsibility.

The Year 11 Hospitality students hosted Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea yesterday for staff, raising funds and awareness for the Cancer Council.
Students worked hard to prepare a delicious selection of homemade treats, including sausage rolls, mini quiches, empanadas, cheesecake brownies, and lemon myrtle scones. The event was a wonderful opportunity for students to showcase their hospitality skills while supporting an important cause that impacts so many Australians. 🙌

🎨 Congratulations to Yuvan and Ken!
We’re proud to celebrate former Year 12 Visual Arts students Yuvan and Ken, whose works have been selected for the prestigious The West Australian Pulse 2026 exhibition at the Art Gallery of WA.
Their artworks, Embrace and Looking Back, Looking Up, are now on display alongside the state’s most outstanding young artists—a fantastic achievement! 👏
The exhibition runs until 13 September—be sure to visit and support these talented young artists.

Today we celebrate P&C Day. A day to recognise the efforts of our families and community members who collaborate with the school to improve student and staff experience and access to resources.
But at Bob Hawke College, as we grow a whole new community from the ground up, our P&C serves the purpose of not just “fundraising” but “funraising” too. Our P&C’s events, spread throughout the calendar and designed to be accessible to the greatest number of family and community members, are a feature of our culture.
So today, we say thanks to our dedicated Bob Hawke College P&C committee led by Nadine Krejci and the families who donate to their efforts, for bringing the “fun and the funds” to the Bob Hawke College community. 🙏

Our Year 8 students enjoyed a fantastic day at the Lightning Carnival, representing the College with enthusiasm, teamwork, and great sportsmanship across basketball, soccer, AFL, and netball.
There were some standout moments, with our boys’ soccer teams finishing second in all three divisions and our netball teams securing several strong wins. A special mention to the boys’ AFL teams, who showed incredible resilience and determination, playing eight games without interchange players.
A huge congratulations to all students for their positive effort and behaviour throughout the day. Thank you also to our senior student coaches, referees, and staff for their valued support.
We look forward to seeing our Year 9 and 10 students take to the field later this term! 💪

A Message from the Principal
We have had a successful start to second term. For our senior students from Years 10 to 12, the next chapter is heavily focused on examinations, externally set tasks and end of unit assessments and I am sure that all staff and families join me in wishing our students the best of luck and remind them that finding space between shorter and higher impact study sessions will help them with examination preparation.
Today we launch the community consultation phase as we prepare our next Business Plan 2027-2029. Please have your say at: https://tinyurl.com/BHCBPReview
Today we recognised and celebrated IDAHOBIT Day, ahead of the official date of Sunday 17 May. In accordance with flag protocols, we flew the “rainbow” Pride flag alongside the Australian and Aboriginal flags in our podium courtyard. The City of Subiaco are also working with our students to produce a piece of art that demonstrates our inclusive values.
Last weekend’s season of six performances of Fame Junior were a demonstration of the talent we have among our students and staff. Performing to delighted audiences of local Primary students during the day, a matinee crowd on Saturday and sold-out audiences over three evenings our students brought the energy, enthusiasm and songs of Manhattan’s Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Performing Arts (Fame School) right here to Subiaco. Congratulations to all involved.
