Exciting to see the first Murdoch lambs arrive at Muresk Institute, part of the Department and WA’s agriculture skills hub, connecting training and industry. 🐑

We’re thrilled to welcome the newest members of the Muresk family – our first Murdoch lambs of the year. 🐑

This marks an amazing milestone in our partnership with Murdoch University, working together to support hands-on veterinary learning.

Meet Latoya ⭐

Layota was a trainee in the Department’s Human Resources branch, who’s journey began through the Solid Futures Program and is now working within the Work Health and Safety team.

Latoya says, “I believe it’s important to have access to training and employment opportunities to improve quality of life.”

Like Latoya, you could take the first steps towards a rewarding career through our Diversity Traineeship Pathways Program (DTPP). As a trainee, you’ll work full-time or part-time with the Department while completing a nationally recognised qualification.

Meet Julie ⭐

Julie joined the Department in 2022 as a trainee through the Diversity Traineeship Pathways Program – and now she’s part of our Finance Services team.

Through the program, Julie developed practical, job-ready skills, grew her confidence working in a team, and gained a real understanding of how government works.

Julie says, “I was drawn to the program because it offered an opportunity to build a career in the public sector while being supported in an inclusive environment. As a deaf person and a visual learner, I found the hands-on experience of being a trainee in an active environment appealing. This opportunity helped me understand how government workplace’s function, exposed me to different teams, and showed me how projects are delivered.”

Our second National Careers Week story features Tyler, whose journey to award-winning apprentice shows what’s possible. 🏆

Currently studying a Certificate III Apprenticeship in Engineering – Fabrication Trade at South Regional TAFE, Tyler’s journey began by following in his father’s footsteps at Kosters Steel, helping with weekend jobs. When he was able to leave secondary school, the company’s director offered him an apprenticeship opportunity, and he jumped at the chance.

Awarded Apprentice of the Year – 3rd Year for Albany campus at the 2025 South Regional TAFE Student Awards and Apprentice of the Year at the Albany Chamber of Commerce and Industry 2025 Great Southern Business Awards, Tyler’s journey highlights the skills and dedication that can lead to a successful and rewarding career.
