🚀✨ Inspiring the Next Generation of Space Explorers! 🌏🧑‍🚀

What happens when Australia’s first astronaut sits down with the 2025 Minister’s Teacher of the Year? You get an inspiring conversation about dreams, education and the power of STEM! 🔬🚀

Together, they explored the important role education played in Katherine’s journey and how we can inspire the next generation to dream big, ask questions, solve problems and explore the possibilities of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. 🌱🔭

Because today’s curious students could be tomorrow’s astronauts, scientists, engineers and space explorers. 🚀✨

Last week students from Canning College put their cyber skills to the test at our Think, Defend, Secure Cybersecurity Bootcamp at WASSEC. 💻🔐

Working in teams, students tackled a real-world cyber security scenario, investigating threats, solving problems and developing strategies to protect sensitive client data. Along the way, they built their communication, critical thinking and teamwork skills while experiencing what it's like to work in the exciting world of cyber security.

It was fantastic to see students challenge themselves, collaborate with confidence and embrace every opportunity to learn. We loved having them at WASSEC and can't wait to welcome our next group of future cyber professionals!

What a fantastic week of Mission to Mars adventures at WASSEC with Tapping Primary School!

Our young astronauts put their teamwork, problem-solving and STEM skills to the test as they tackled the challenges of surviving and thriving on the Red Planet. 👩‍🚀

From pre-launch preparations to the final mission debrief, it was wonderful to see so much curiosity, creativity and collaboration on display. A huge thank you to all the students who joined us this week—we loved having you aboard! 🚀

Here's to another week of inspiring the next generation of space explorers! ✨

30/07/2026

We were delighted for our Director and members of WASSEC's Education Team to attend the Australian Space Forum in Adelaide last week, joining colleagues from across the sector.

The Forum is a fantastic opportunity to connect with leaders from across Australia's space sector, explore the latest developments in space and STEM, and strengthen the partnerships that help inspire the next generation of space professionals.

We look forward to sharing some highlights from the event!

🔐 Can you outsmart a cyber-attack?🖥️

Last week, students from Ashdale Secondary College were the first to take on Silent Breach: A Capture the Flag Exercise—an immersive cyber security experience developed in partnership with ECU School Of Science (Edith Cowan University).

Working through a real-world scenario cyber incident, students stepped into the role of “ethical hackers”; exploring cyber security concepts and techniques as they analysed network data, gathered open-source intelligence (OSINT) and applied digital forensic skills to uncover the source of the breach.

By investigating digital threats, analysing evidence and making critical decisions under pressure, students experienced the challenges faced by cyber security professionals in the real world.

Experiences like Silent Breach provide authentic STEM learning opportunities, developing problem-solving, teamwork and digital literacy skills while introducing students to one of Australia's fastest-growing industries.

A huge thank you to everyone who participated, in particular to the ECU development team who worked alongside staff to develop the program!
It was fantastic to see students collaborating, thinking critically and embracing the challenge with confidence. 💻🔍

Every mission starts with one question…. are we ready?

Recently, students from St Luke's Catholic Primary Woodvale accepted the challenge!

Faced with the unknown, they worked together, solved problems, and made critical decisions as they navigated their Mission to Mars🚀🔴

It’s amazing what can happen when curiosity meets collaboration✨

Mission accomplished – great work St Luke’s crew!🧑‍🚀

🚀 From Western Australia to the Moon!🚀

We were thrilled to see NASA announce that Firefly Aerospace has been selected as one of three companies to deliver a new mission to the Moon as part of NASA's Moon Base Program. The mission marks Firefly's second lunar mission and another significant milestone in the future of space exploration.

Earlier this year, WASSEC was proud to welcome Western Australian spacecraft systems engineer Jaxon Liebeck from Firefly Aerospace. Jaxon inspired students across the state by sharing his journey from WA to working on cutting-edge lunar missions, proving that careers in the global space industry are within reach.

Jaxon spoke with students at WASSEC and with more than 100 schools across Western Australia via webinar, offering a fascinating insight into life as a spacecraft systems engineer and the opportunities available through STEM. His passion for inspiring young people to dream big and pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics left a lasting impression on everyone who attended.

Seeing Firefly Aerospace selected by NASA for this latest lunar mission makes Jaxon's visit even more meaningful. It reminds our students that the people shaping the future of space exploration can come from right here in Western Australia.

Congratulations to Jaxon and the entire Firefly Aerospace team on this incredible achievement. We look forward to following your journey back to the Moon! 🌕✨

Last week our newest mission recruits from Leinster Community School stepped into the roles of astronauts, engineers and mission controllers as they tackled the challenges of surviving and succeeding on Mars.

Every decision mattered. Every problem required teamwork. Every success was earned.

At WASSEC, students don’t just learn about space – they experience the skills that make exploration possible.

🛰️ Evidence collected. Theories tested. Mission complete. 🚀

The Western Australian Primary Principals' Association - WAPPA Prize Winners from Hudson Park Primary School put their STEM skills to the test as they investigated one of science's biggest questions:

🪐 Could life exist on Mars?

Working as part of a mission team, students analysed clues, evaluated evidence, and made critical decisions as they pieced together the story of the Red Planet.

From the first mission briefing to the final mission report, it was fantastic to see students thinking critically, collaborating effectively, and embracing every challenge along the way.

Congratulations to this enthusiastic team on their successful mission at WASSEC! 👏🚀

🚀 BIG NEWS FROM NASA!🚀

https://www.nasa.gov/news-release/nasa-marches-toward-artemis-iii-mission-in-2027-names-crew-members/

The crew for Artemis III has officially been announced, marking another giant leap toward humanity's return to the Moon.

It's exciting to remember that every astronaut, scientist, and engineer on this mission was once a student with a dream. Through curiosity, perseverance, and a passion for discovery, they helped turn the impossible into reality.

At WASSEC, we're proud to help spark that same sense of wonder through hands-on STEM learning and immersive Mars Mission experiences. Who knows? The next astronaut to walk on the Moon—or even Mars—might be one of our students. ⭐🚀

The future of space exploration is being shaped today. We're excited to see where it takes them. 🌎➡️🌙➡️🔴
