As part of Reconciliation Week, we were honoured to welcome Aunty Lois to Acacia Hill.
Aunty Lois shared stories about Aboriginal culture, traditions, and pastimes, introducing the children to Noongar language books, tapping sticks, and boomerangs. The children listened with curiosity, asked questions, and enjoyed exploring these meaningful cultural resources.
Experiences like these help children develop respect, understanding, and appreciation for the rich histories and cultures of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. We thank Aunty Lois for sharing her knowledge and helping us continue our journey of learning together. ๐ค๐โค๏ธ

Outdoor obstacle courses provide children with fun opportunities to challenge themselves, take risks, and build confidence. As they balance, climb, step, and navigate different equipment, they are developing strength, coordination, balance, and body awareness.
These active play experiences also encourage perseverance, problem-solving, and resilience as children learn what their bodies can do and celebrate their achievements along the way. ๐

Building Independence One Step at a Time
The simple task of putting belongings away may seem small, but it helps children develop important life skills every day.
By taking responsibility for their own bag and belongings, children build independence, self-help skills, organisation, responsibility, and confidence. These everyday routines also encourage children to care for their possessions and develop a sense of ownership within their environment.
It's often the little moments that have the biggest impact on a child's growing independence.

All You Need is a Boat, Some Mates and a Great Imagination...
Our children transformed the outdoor boat into an exciting adventure, working together to create stories, explore new places, and navigate the seas. Through imaginative play, children develop communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and social skills while having fun with their friends.
Sometimes the best adventures begin with a little imagination and great company! โ๏ธ

With a basket of blocks and a big imagination, anything is possible! During this solo play experience, our little learner enjoyed the opportunity to explore their own ideas, make independent choices, and build at their own pace.
As children build, create, and experiment, they develop problem-solving skills, concentration, creativity, persistence, and confidence in their own abilities.
Every block placed is another step in bringing their ideas to life.

Using clear coloured blocks on the light table, our children explored colour, shape, balance, and design. As they built and experimented, they developed problem-solving skills, creativity, concentration, and teamwork.
Simple resources can create endless opportunities for discovery, imagination, and learning through play. โจ

Embracing Messy Play at Childcare... So You Don't Have To at Home!
Messy play is more than just funโit helps children develop creativity, sensory awareness, problem-solving skills, and confidence as they explore the world around them.
Kindy enjoyed getting their hands dirty, mixing, squishing, and investigating different textures. The smiles were big, the mess was bigger, and the learning was endless!
You're welcome, parents! ๐

A huge thank you to all of our wonderful families who generously donated to the Cancer Councilโs Biggest Morning Tea. Together, our Stirling community has raised funds to support Australians impacted by cancer, and we couldnโt be more grateful. ๐ผโ
Every donation, big or small, helps fund vital cancer research, prevention programs, and support services for those who need it most.
At Acacia Hill, we believe in caring, sharing, and supporting our wider community. Seeing our families come together for such an important cause is something we're incredibly proud of. ๐
Thank you for your kindness, generosity, and community spirit. We truly have the most amazing families! ๐โจ

Building Life Skills Through Play
Our youngest learners are developing important life skills through simple, hands-on experiences. As they explore and manipulate loose parts, they are building concentration, problem-solving skills, fine motor control, and persistence.
These everyday moments of play help children develop confidence, independence, and a love of learning as they discover what they can do for themselves. ๐

Meal times are about so much more than eating. They provide opportunities for children to develop independence, self-help skills, hand-eye coordination, and confidence as they learn to feed themselves.
And let's be honest... sometimes the messier the face, the more they've enjoyed it! ๐
