70 Years of Millen - From Telephones to Tech
As we look forward to celebrating Millen Primary School’s 70th Anniversary Fete - we’re taking a look back at just how much STEM and technology have changed at Millen over the decades!
1959–1969 – The Postmaster General visited Millen each year to teach students the proper use of the telephone! Imagine needing a lesson on how to make a phone call!
1963 – Millen was moving with the times, installing a public address and radio system in every classroom.
1971 – The school purchased its very first television set – a pretty exciting piece of classroom technology at the time!
1997 – Millen entered the internet age with the formation of its first Internet Committee and installation of the school’s first networked computer system.
2009 – Millen students showed their STEM skills by taking out a victory in the WA Solar Boat Challenge!
2009 – Google Doodle: Another fantastic moment in Millen’s technology and creativity story.
🏆 2018 – What a year for STEM at Millen! Our Coding Club placed FIRST in an Australia/New Zealand video game creation competition, while Millen also celebrated a STEM Teacher of the Year. Millen Primary was even mentioned on the TV Program 'The Project' at the time for these amazing achievements! TODAY – From interactive classroom panels to coding, digital learning and platforms such as Elastik, technology may look very different from that first telephone lesson – but Millen’s commitment to giving students opportunities to **learn, create, innovate and explore** continues.
From telephones to televisions, computers, solar boats and coding... What an incredible 70 years of learning and innovation at Millen Primary School!
