Double digits! 🎂✨ This weekend, we had the absolute joy of celebrating a very special 10th birthday at The Maker Space.

The birthday girl has been coming to our creative workshops since she was just 6 years old, and she even celebrated her birthday with us last year, too! Watching our young makers grow in confidence and creativity over the years is truly the best part of what we do.

Her mum left us the most beautiful review after her last party, sharing:

"The venue is light, bright, and inspiring... The host was fantastic and engaged the girls beautifully... The 2.5-hour party meant there was plenty of time for painting, eating, and playing... Every child went home with a masterpiece they were proud of!"

This year, the girls completely leveled up the good vibes for a 2.5-hour Painting Party. They turned the studio into a runway, dressing up in our props, hats, wigs, and sunglasses (swipe for the pure joy! 🕶️🎩).

But what really melted our hearts was the artwork. The girls painted canvases featuring positive messages. While we provided some initial ideas, we absolutely loved that each girl made up her own personalized affirmation. Instead of matching, "copycat" designs, every single painting turned out as completely unique and beautiful as the girl who created it. 🎨💖

With 2.5 hours, there was zero rush—just the perfect balance of time to paint, play, eat, and make memories.

Thank you for letting us be a part of your birthday tradition for another year! 🥳

We loved inviting people to contribute to this community art piece at the Community Safety Expo run by the City of Stirling. Everyone young and old had a different take on what "My Safe Space" meant to them which has made a colourful, dynamic and creative community sculpture.

Tuesday Tip: Let Kids Decorate the Cake!

Parents, let's skip the birthday cake stress this year. 🛋️☕

Instead of spending a small fortune on a custom bakery cake, or spending your night before the party stressing over a piping bag trying to make a flawless one from scratch—let the kids handle it!

At The Maker Space, we love turning the birthday cake into a fun activity. 🥳

Handing the kids a plain cake, an assortment of lollies, and edible decorations to create their own "abstract masterpiece" solves two major problems at once:

It keeps an entire room of kids completely mesmerised and engaged.

It checks a massive, stressful to-do item completely off your list.

We even offer two ways to make this effortless for you:

The DIY Option: You bring a plain, undecorated cake, and we provide the hosting, lollies, and creative direction.

The Full "Easy Button" Option: We provide the cake, the lollies, and the hosting—so you don’t even have to make a stop at the bakery.

Let us handle the hard work, the hosting, and the cleanup at our Floreat Forum studio while you sit back and actually enjoy the milestone.

While we are busy working on our July program thought we would showcase our recycled Picasso Art project from last holidays.

In our workshop, we do a lot of arranging and exploring with shapes, layers and before anyone starts glueing.

What I have learnt about kids and face collage is that guidance in the form of prompt not instruction switches on their Creative Problem Solving Brain🧠

They will naturally go for one layer/one piece of collage to represent all the bits of the face. That's fine but to stretch them I have found that mirrors work well, "What shapes can you see in your nose?" Or challenges like: " Can you combine shapes to make a nose with more than one layer?"

I rarely have examples and I trust that kids can do challenging stuff they have never done before. Just another way we build resileince through art. They need patience and encouragement to trust their ideas.

Recycled art is great for events as well, we have done recycling workshops for Rottnest Island Authority, Rockingham Libraries and more!

Sign up to find out about our July holiday program as soon as the workshops are available, follow us or DM your name and email address and we can add you.

So much to thank Mum for. We joined the community at Holy Rosary Catholic school in Doubleview this week at their breakfast.

Kids were invited to make a card with a special message of gratitude. Gratitude goes beyond saying "Happy Mothers Day".

It is telling mum why she is loved and treasured.

It is saying thanks for being there, for her hugs, kindness, dinners, helping with homework etc,etc...

It is acknowleging what she is the best at....

Expressing gratitude is an act of resilience and love.

Receiving gratitude gives us a special shot of warm fuzzy feelings.

Bothe contributes to our mental well-being.

Ever feel like your child has been hijacked by Caveman?

When big emotions take over, the "Brave Brain" goes off-line and the Caveman takes over. In this video I am breaking down what happens in the growing brain and how we can help them find their calm again.

We have 3 simple breathing techniques to help you and your child take the brain together. Tap the link in the bio and look for the latest blog.

49 seconds of Resilience in Action!

What does a growth mindset actually look like? It looks like this!

Our April School Holiday Program was a beautiful, creative whirlwind at The Maker Space at Floreat Foeum. From "Mistake Maker Camp" to "Mini Architect," to "Very Arty Day" we watched kids move from "I can't" to "I wonder what happens if...".

At Strength Heroes, we don't do "copy-cat" art. We provide launchpads for autonomy, where kids use paint, clay, watercolour, textiles and recycled treasures to solve problems, embrace the "joy of mess," and build the internal strength to navigate life's tricky moments.

Every piece of art in this reel represents a child who stayed in the "Stretch Zone" and came out more confident on the other side.

Missed out this time? We are already busy building the July School Holiday schedule! Hit the link in our bio to join the waitlist. 📅

It was great to be a part of Naala Djookan Adventure Quest day during the I am always struck by how creative play can be such a source of healing and connection for everyone in our community.

Children and young people are growing up in an increasingly complex world, with family and domestic violence affecting many families. For children impacted by these experiences, shared playtime with a safe parent can support healing and growth.

Our recent Adventure Quest session brought mothers and children together through creative drawing and model‑making using everyday materials. The activities encouraged families to recognise their strengths and build resilience when facing challenges.

Delivered by the Naala Djookan Healing Centre in collaboration with The Australian Childhood Foundation , the program was facilitated by Founder and Resilience Educator Fiona Perrella from Strength heroes Art Classes for Kids in Perth. Fiona was a finalist in the 2022 WA Mental Health Awards in the Mental Health Educator category.

Through creativity, play and connection, Adventure Quest created a safe space for families to heal, grow and rediscover their strength together.
