There's just over a week left to see The West Australian Pulse 2026 at The Art Gallery of WA, which features this stunning artwork by Amelia Do (Class of 2025).

A former Penrhos Creative Arts Captain, Amelia is among a talented group of emerging young artists selected for the annual showcase, which features 63 works by 2025 Year 12 Visual Arts graduates from 43 schools across WA.

In speaking about her piece, Amelia said "Food brings people together – to each other and to their heritage. For me, phở is more than a dish. It’s memory, sustenance, comfort, and connection.

"Coming home to the smell of peppery star anise and velvet broth was the rhythm of my childhood. A dinner table reveals a family: its habits, chaos, and shared histories. My three-generation household is made up of storytellers, and almost every story is told over dinner or lingers long after. Some stories are embellished, drawn out, or half-censored. Sometimes language gets details slip or words don’t land quite right, but meaning still finds its way through.

"In my family, certain phrases say everything: “Eat more. Take more food.” They always mean: “I love you.”

A big thank you to Ashara St Quintin (Class of 2002), who returned to Penrhos to share her journey from Year 10 subject selection to a career as a Mechanical Engineer at Woodside.👏

Ashara reflected on the diverse experiences and opportunities that shaped her skills and confidence, reminding students that every step along the way contributes to future success. It was a timely message for our Year 10s as they move from subject selection to building resumes and beginning to explore their own future pathways💡

Could you inspire the next generation of Penrhos students?

Our alumni bring invaluable real-world insight, perspective and inspiration. Whether it’s through guest speaking, mentoring or co-curricular involvement, there are plenty of ways to reconnect, share your experience and make an impact.

Thank you to everyone who submitted a nomination in this year's 'Courage Starts Here' Awards 🏅

As the Leadership Team starts the difficult task of shortlisting nominations, we thought we'd share a little life update from one of our 2025 winners ❤️

After surviving a life-threatening brain bleed and spending more than a year in hospital, Ashlyn King (Class of 2025) returned not only to rebuild her own life, but to make a lasting difference in the lives of others.

Alongside her incredible fundraising efforts, Ashlyn has become a Perth Children's Hospital Foundation Ambassador, sharing her lived experience with rehabilitation, neurosurgery, allied health and nursing teams to help deepen their understanding of the patient journey.

And away from fundraising and advocacy? One of the highlights of her year so far has been meeting her idol, Guy Sebastian – a moment she'll never forget ✨
