The Staff: the teachers are very experienced with the average length of service in the school of approximately eight years. This experience is valued by the Edith Cowan University when training their student teachers with many students placed throughout the school. Early Childhood Centre: there are 5 purpose-built rooms to cater for our 4 and 5 year old Kindy and Foundation students. Library: The library resource centre is well equipped and students can borrow as well as make use of passive recreation during some breaks. Literacy and Numeracy: These are key areas of focus. Staff and students are supported by a Literacy and mathematics co-ordinator. The school incorporates the Diana Rigg Literacy programme, MULTILIT and the Light House oral language programme supported by the SE Metropolitan Language Development centre. Japanese: The Languages other than English learning area (LOTE) provides Japanese language lessons to Years 3-7 for 60 minutes per week and there are strong links with Belmont City College and their Japanese programme. Canteen: the undercover area hosts the school assemblies every fortnight and the canteen which open daily and provides a service to children during recess and lunch,
Arts: there is a purpose-built Art and Music room. The Arts Learning area is well catered for with an active Choir and the Visual Arts programme which is of a high standard. Classrooms: These range in age from the original 1915 room through to rooms completed in 2011. All benefit from the P & C commitment to air-conditioning and most are fitted with an Interactive Whiteboard. Technology: is a focus for the school and is underpinned by a computer lab containing 24 standard PCs, a pod of PCs, in the Library and PCs in each classroom. All are inter-connected to the Library Resource Centre and the classrooms. With most classrooms having an Interactive Whiteboard, the school is well positioned to introduce Information Communication Technology (ICT) learning programmes. Physical & Health Education: the sports programme is strong and the seniors compete across local schools in swimming, winter sports and summer sports. This is support by a specialist PE teacher. The Health programme is class based but supported by the Travel Smart programme, Crunch n Sip and Sun Smart programmes. Values Education: The school staff embrace the Virtues programme and this is support with our school Chaplain and the Aussie of the Month Awards. Values is an integral part of the school’s ethos and operation which results in the high standard of care and respect that students and staff demonstrate in their everyday actions of striving and succeeding. Sister Schools: The school has a connection with two schools in Bali and try to support these schools with resources and professional input.
