🏓 Looking for a fun way to spend your Thursday afternoons?

For a lively, friendly session of social table tennis, why not enrol in Kalamunda Community Learning Centre's Table Tennis course? The group plays for the fun of the game, so you can count on plenty of laughs and good company.

While they keep things social, players do need a basic knowledge of the rules and some experience behind the paddle to keep the rallies flowing.

All equipment is supplied; just bring your enthusiasm and game face!

When curious minds get together to look at what philosophers have said in the past and what they are saying now, the discussion is lively and fun as opinions are expressed.

In Kalamunda Community Learning Centre's Philosophy Discussion Group, participants read and discuss papers and articles presented by the tutor Gerard Tonks. Students share the reading of commentaries on philosophical topics and writers who range from the great Greeks, Plato and Aristotle to the more current moderns such as Roger Scruton and Bertrand Russell.

All you need to bring is an open mind!

⚡️ COURSE SPOTLIGHT ⚡️

Menopause affects women physically – undeniably, some women go through a kind of torture, while others experience relief.

'Your Artistry: Menopause', will explore, through arts activities, the mental, emotional, spiritual and transitional experience of menopause. The course, led by tutor Helen Nandlal, will run for eight weeks on Tuesday afternoons starting Tuesday 4 August.

You will have opportunities, in a safe, supportive environment, to make sense of your menopause experience. Helen aims for you to gain deeper insight, meaning, and tools to grow through this life experience healthily.

⚡️ COURSE SPOTLIGHT ⚡️

Science is knowledge of both the natural and social worlds that is acquired through observation and experimentation. Eclecticism is a conceptual approach with NO underlying assumptions, but makes use of any framework to gain insights into what is happening.

Lead by Dr Marilyn Bennet-Chambers, an extremely well-qualified and experienced expert in biosciences, 'The Eclectic Scientist' explores many topics by looking to the underpinning science for explanation. Themes include the environment, climate and current issues, human behaviour, culture and societies and the relationships between human creativity, such as the arts and music and the sciences involved.

Participants must have an opinion and a sense of humour!

🧑‍🎨 Ever fancied learning the art of oil painting?

🖌️ Kalamunda Community Learning Centre's Oil Painting course on a Monday afternoon caters for beginners through to advanced painters and explores both classical and modern techniques of oil painting.

🎨 Tutor, Nisa Lourvanij, has been teaching this class at the Centre for over eight years and, along with lots of energy, provides useful information each week about brush skills and qualities, tonal values, impact and use of colour, including colour mixing and composition. Students will need to provide their own oil paints, canvas, cleaning equipment and good brushes for this course.

🪚 Kalamunda Community Learning Centre's Handy Persons course is for participants with no experience with common hand tools or general domestic building repairs or construction. All the activities learnt during the course can be done at home without a dedicated workshop.

🛠️ At the end of the course, you will be able to recognise, select and use a range of common hand and power tools and hopefully complete those basic domestic repairs or installations around your home.
