🔬🧪 Science Week at AIC Thornlie!

“Seeds of Science: Nurturing knowledge for all.”

Science is not just about books and experiments… sometimes it’s about getting involved, having a laugh and saying, “WOW! How did that happen?”

At AIC Thornlie, we brought science to life with an exciting Silly Scientist incursion! Our students had a fantastic time watching amazing demonstrations, joining in with experiments and, of course, enjoying plenty of laughs along the way.

Who said science has to be serious? Science can be silly, exciting and full of surprises! 🧪😂✨

🔬✨ Science Week at AIC Henley Brook Primary!

Our students have been bringing Science Week to life through our assemblies, where they researched, discussed, presented and conducted exciting experiments for their peers!

What made these presentations especially meaningful was the focus on the incredible contributions of Muslim scholars to science and discovery.

Students explored the work of:

🔭 Ibn al-Haytham – a pioneer of optics and the scientific method
🧪 Jabir ibn Hayyan – an early pioneer of chemistry and experimental science
➗ Al-Khwarizmi – a pioneer of mathematics and algebra
🌍 Al-Biruni – made significant contributions to astronomy, mathematics, geography and the study of the Earth

Through hands-on experiments, our students explored ideas such as light and optics, chemical reactions, mathematics, astronomy, measurement and the forces that shape our world.

It was wonderful to see our students confidently share their learning while recognising the rich scientific heritage of Muslim scholars and their lasting contributions to knowledge.

“Read in the name of your Lord who created you.”

Learn. Discover. Experiment. Inspire. 🔬🌟

🎨 Exploring Australia in Pre-Primary Thornlie!

This term, our Pre-Primary students have been enjoying lots of hands-on learning and creative craft activities as we explore Australia, its people, and its culture. The children have been learning about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and their important connection to Country. Through stories, discussions, and arts and crafts activities, students are developing an appreciation and respect for the world’s oldest continuing cultures.

We have also been learning about the special Australian landmark Uluru, including its location, history and cultural significance. It has been wonderful to see our little learners growing their knowledge of Australia while developing respect, curiosity and appreciation for the diverse cultures and people of our country.
