Leeming Child Care Centre, Pre Kindy & Early Education

The children in our kindy room have been interested in turtles after learning about the South West Noongar Seasons.
During our recent RAP meeting we decided together to make this interest an “All In” project for Reconciliation week.
All of our age groups, including the babies, toddlers and kindy children and our educators made a large paper mache Booyi (Noongar word for turtle). There were many layers involved and it was lovely to see some of the older children helping the younger children to work together.
Along the way we learnt more about Noongar language, other Australian animals and about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture and their continuous connection to the water, land, animals and people.
We are very impressed with the end piece of art, our large Booyi is on display with other interesting information by our main entrance for visitors to admire and educate.
This “All In” project is being continued on beyond reconciliation week. We will be exploring more Australian animals and Noongar language. ❤️💛🖤 💙🤍💚

Last week we had a visit from Daycare Dental. Samera the dentist was fantastic with the children and made the experience positive and fun. Samera gave an educational talk first that helped the children feel comfortable and understand some of the instruments used for a dental check up. The children practiced using toys and props. Then some children had a dental check up and their teeth cleaned in a familiar environment with their regular educator with them.

Remembering those who were brave and courageous so we could live the wonderful life we do today. It was a week of kindness, reflection and helping others. All of our age groups made Anzac biscuits together and it was lovely to see the older children helping some of the younger children with a variety of activities and stories. Our Big Teds made an extra batch of Anzac slice and delivered it to our village friends across the park. ❤️💜

African Drumming with our Kindy group. Kawaka, originally from West Africa brought his positive energy and fun vibes to Big Teds. He also commented how impressed he was with all of the children for their involvement and confidence with trying new experiences. We look forward to having experience again. 😁❤️🪘🎶🙌

Our babies and toddlers had a wonderful experience with Kawaka from African Drumming this week. The children (and our educators) were captivated and were kept engaged with music, rhythm, singing and dancing. There were lots of joyful smiles in the room.
Drumming exercises the brain and the body, stimulating physical and neurological coordination. It’s also a feel-good activity that boosts confidence and wellbeing. 🪘❤️🎶
