WASMA students meet the WAAPA composers: As we head toward production on our Set Ready slate of films coming up in May/June, we’re already thinking about post-production. This week our students pitched their projects to the WAAPA composers, outlining plot, characters and emotional journey of their films and the type of music score they are after. This collaboration with WAAPA composers has been a feature of our course for over 10 years and is highly beneficial to our students and emerging composers. We also got to experience one of the new WAAPA working spaces: The Paula Huston Auditorium.

It’s that time of year already - our mini shoot is underway. This is a great learning experience for our students, and a chance to film on the Sky Terrace at our new city campus. A glorious day for doing what we love doing.

WASMA had a wonderful visit and very informative chat with Prospero Productions Chief Operations Officer, Sharron Ashworth on Friday as part of our Screen Careers unit. Prospero is one of WA largest production companies and employer of graduates and Sharron shared her career pathway journey and vast experience with students from multiple screen and broadcasting units. This dynamic interaction with industry leaders is one aspect of our courses that we're very proud of and keeps us vibrant and relevant. Prospero is also offering a graduate prize this year to a postgraduate student with documentary experience - a 6 week paid internship at Prospero. Amazing!

Associate Professor Cathy Henkel will be hosting a screening of a new feature documentary called WE ARE JENI at Luna Leederville on Saturday 21st March at 1pm.
WE ARE JENI reveals one of the most extraordinary criminal cases in Australian history. Dr Jeni Haynes' mind fractured into 2,500 personalities to survive her childhood. It took 40 years for her to be believed and find justice. This is the story of how she and her army of alters were finally heard.
After the screening, Cathy will host a Q&A via Zoom with the directors of the film, Mariel Thomas & Akhim Dev.
