Pre-Kindergarten to Year 6
Small School, Big Experiences

Moerlina provides an inquiry-based, student-centred approach to teaching the WA State and National curriculums. It has around 60 students from pre-kindy (age 3) to Year 6 and is co-educational, multicultural and non-denominational. The school prioritises small, multi-age classrooms, catering to the individual needs of children and their families.

National Reconciliation Week reflections from some of our young learners:

In the Pre-Primary class, we discussed the significant word “reconciliation” and explored its meaning. We translated it as “making things better,” and the children came up with some insightful ideas (featured in second slide).

We read Adam Goodes’ and Ellie Laing’s “Somebody’s Land” and discussed why acknowledging the traditional custodians of the land where we live, eat, play, and learn is important. Additionally, we delved into history, heritage, and culture through Isaiah Firebrace’s “Come Together”, discovering the rich culture of the First Nations People as an integral part of reconciliation.

Today we pause and reflect for National Sorry Day
💛🖤❤️

We remember the Stolen Generations and honour the strength of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and communities. Our students are learning that reconciliation is something we do all together, every day, and that every one of us has a part to play.

At Moerlina, students explore stories and story-making, immersed in their own worlds.

Let’s celebrate the power of imagination and discovery! Where creativity, thinking differently, and academic inquiry converge, both students and educators find true joy in exploring concepts deeply.

LITTLE SCIENTISTS HOUSE RECERTIFICATION

We are delighted to share that Moerlina School has successfully renewed our certification as a Little Scientists House until April 2028.

This recognition reflects the inquiry learning that takes place across our school and, in this instance, celebrates the thoughtful STEM learning happening in our Pre-Primary class.

A special congratulations to Mac Irons for the care and commitment involved in preparing and submitting the recertification application. Mac’s documentation highlighted the Pre-Primary inquiry project, How can we have a market that makes money?, which emerged from the children’s desire to raise funds for a water tank in their wild play space.

The feedback from Little Scientists particularly acknowledged the strong sense of agency shown by the children, the authentic and child-led nature of the learning, and the way STEM thinking and mathematics were meaningfully embedded throughout the project. The submission was described as being read “with joy and admiration,” with recognition given to the children’s planning, problem-solving, decision-making and reflection.

We acknowledge Mac and the Pre-Primary children on this wonderful achievement and thank them for the creativity, curiosity and collaboration reflected in this work.

We had the truly wonderful opportunity to visit Kerry Street Community School , where we were warmly invited to enjoy a performance by the Yirra Yaakin Theatre Company. Before the show, we shared a delightful lunch and playtime together, cherishing moments in their beautiful school setting.

The students were genuinely engaged during the performance titled “Djinda Kaatjin,” which took us on a magical journey learning about the stars, sparking our imaginations.

A heartfelt thank you to Principal Taylah Griffin and the entire staff at Kerry Street for graciously hosting us on this lovely day filled with connection, learning, and joy.

Our early learners had an unforgettable day at Brownes Dairy! 🐄✨
We met Farmer Damian, Jo and Curly Sue the Dairy dog. We patted and milked Mootilda, explored how milk is processed, and tasted delicious yoghurt flavours.
This hands-on experience helped us learn where our food comes from, explore science in action, and build confidence through trying new things, all while having so much fun!

Thank you Brownes Dairy!
