Shooting hoops during lunchtime is a perfect way to clear the mind. Casual basketball games are a regular feature of lunch breaks in our Recreation Centre. There is also badminton and football, a gymnasium where students can workout, and table tennis in the cafeteria.
A great study experience balances teaching and learning with fun social and sporting activities.

In the three years since he completed the WA Universities’ Foundation Program at Canning College, Brendon has almost completed a Computer Science degree at Curtin University. He has also become a fluent Japanese speaker. The Malaysian student decided to learn the language because some of his friends where from Japan. Our Admissions Manager Sachiko was able to test out his language proficiency when he dropped in to see us recently. Thanks for coming to see us, Brendon.

When the market came to campus! Some of our Year 11 students have been practising their selling skills as part of their Business Management and Enterprise studies during Monday lunchtimes. Their Pop-up Shop Market Day is a key feature of studies that focus on marketing, operations management, finance management and small business development. The groups are competing against each other and afterwards will create a business report that highlights learnings and recommendations.
Students and staff keen to sample sweet treats, squishy toys, snacks and fizzy drinks will have one last chance to make a purchase when the final Pop-up Shop Market Day is held next Monday.

It’s been great flicking through the pages of another National Book Week! We’ve enjoyed highlighting well-crafted books, memorable literary characters and the talented writers who made them possible. Thanks again to award-winning author Brendan Ritchie for speaking to our eager students, and congratulations to the winners of the competitions run by our Librarian Shiarne. There was bookmark making, a book-in-a-jar mystery and a book cover treasure hunt. Thanks to all who joined in!

What a thrill it was for our young creative writers to meet award-winning Western Australian author Brendan Ritchie during lunchtime today. As part of our National Book Week celebrations, Brendan spoke to students about his personal writing journey, during which he has had three novels published.
Thanks to Brendan for giving his time today and for encouraging our students to continue to explore their creativity through writing!
Visit www.brendanritchie.com to find out more about his work, which includes his first novel, Carousel, a mystery that takes place inside a local shopping centre of the same name.

What do you get if you cross pirates, with princesses, cowgirls, vampires, a Trekkie and a female detective from the 1920s? You get day one of National Book Week. Our thanks to authors such as Kerry Greenwood, Bram Stoker, Robert Louis Stevenson and JK Rowling for inspiring our students – and staff – to indulge in today’s fancy dress.
National Book Week celebrates great stories, authors and illustrators, and promotes the wonderful benefits of reading.

Human Biology teacher Simon led the charge through National Science Week as we transformed lunch breaks into a series of colourful, noisy, and sometimes tasty experiments. After kicking off the week by making strawberry and chocolate ice cream using liquid nitrogen, we ventured into the lab to test scientific theories – with explosive results - and wrapped up the fun with a science quiz in the cafeteria.

Shout out to our Laboratory Technician Jamie - and to those at other schools during National Science Week! Jamie plays an important role in making sure science learning runs smoothly at Canning College all year round. Even though National Science Week brings with it a lot of extra work, we know she loves making sure the extra activities go off with a bang!
Judging by the smiles and excitement, the extra effort has been well worth it.

Science, strawberries, chocolate... and a little bit of liquid nitrogen. It can only mean one thing: National Science Week at Canning College!
Today, students discovered that science can be both fascinating and delicious as they transformed simple ingredients into fresh strawberry and chocolate ice cream. With clouds of water vapour and plenty of excitement, students watched a liquid mixture freeze into a creamy treat in minutes, while learning about rapid cooling and changes of state.
It was a hands-on reminder that science is all around us, and sometimes it even tastes amazing.

Former Canning College student Vinz returned to Perth recently to study Biomedical Science, majoring in Pathology and Lab Medicine, at The University of Western Australia. Vinz studied the Mid-Year WA Universities’ Foundation Program at Canning College in 2023-24 before heading home to Singapore to complete his national service. On his return to Western Australia recently, Vinz dropped into the College to chat with teachers and staff. It’s always great to hear from our former students and wish them well with future studies. Good luck Vinz.
