The Victoria Square Alumni (VSA) comprises past students from St Josephs School, Our Lady's College and Mercedes College. The VSA contributes significantly to the life of Mercedes College through:

Providing resources, personal support and expertise to the College. Life Membership is open to all past students at a cost of $150, new membership is welcome at any time. We hope this page will provide

Yesterday afternoon, we were delighted to welcome many members of our alumni community back to Mercedes College for our Alumni Tea and Tour.

Guests enjoyed an afternoon of connection as they explored our beautiful grounds, shared afternoon tea and toured the Convent. Throughout the afternoon, stories and memories were exchanged, with each conversation reflecting the enduring Mercy spirit that continues to unite generations of Mercedes women.

It was a privilege to hear from our alumni, learning about their experiences as students while sharing how the College has evolved since their time at Mercedes. For many, their connection to the College extends well beyond graduation, with daughters and granddaughters following in their footsteps as part of our community.

Thank you to all who joined us for such a special afternoon. It was a wonderful celebration of shared experiences, treasured memories and the lifelong connections that make the Mercedes community so unique.

A Legacy of Sporting Excellence 🏅

A treasured piece of Mercedes College sporting history, the Jerry Dolan Shield was awarded to the champion girls' school at the WA Interschool Athletics Carnival. For many years, the shield stood as a symbol of athletic excellence, determination and teamwork, recognising the outstanding achievements of student athletes who represented their school with pride.

The shield was named in honour of Jerry Dolan, a respected teacher, AFL player, coach and politician. It also holds a special connection to Mercedes College through his sister, Sr M Gerard Dolan RSM, who served as Principal of the College from 1971 to 1977 and played an important role in shaping the Mercedes community during a significant period of its history.

This photograph captures six Mercedes athletes proudly holding the Jerry Dolan Shield following their athletics success in 1978. More than four decades later, the same determination, commitment and school spirit continue to define Mercedes sport, with today's student athletes carrying forward this proud legacy. As our ACC Athletics team prepares to compete at the upcoming ACC Interschool Athletics Carnival in the coming weeks, they do so standing on the shoulders of generations of Mercedes women who have represented the College with pride and excellence.

As we continue to celebrate 180 years of Mercy education on its original grounds, we are reminded of the many family stories woven throughout the history of our College community.

Carmel Gee, Class of 1968, recently shared these beautiful photographs from 1934, offering a glimpse into her family’s remarkable connection to the College. Her mother, Betty, was a third-generation student, attending the College as a boarder from the family farm in Benjaberring. Betty referred to it as “The Ladies College” and remembered the beautiful boarding quarters, where she would sit on the verandah reading books.

As fourth-generation students, Carmel and her sister continued a long-standing family tradition at the College, a legacy later carried on by their daughters as the fifth generation to attend. For Carmel’s mother, seeing five generations connected to the College was a deeply meaningful achievement. As Carmel shared, “My mum was very proud of this achievement in our family.”

Five generations of one family connected through the College is a wonderful reflection of the many family stories that form part of our shared history. We are grateful to Carmel for sharing these photographs and her family’s story with our alumni community as we continue to celebrate the people, memories and connections that have shaped our College over 180 years.
