"This is what a good class actually feels like"

Not stressed, not overstimulated, not watching the clock, just present with each other. That's genuinely what we're aiming for in every lesson, more than any specific skill or milestone. The swimming comes naturally once bub feels safe and mum feels calm, and honestly, moments like this are the reason we do what we do. 🤍

A lot of people know us for baby swim, but that's really just where the story starts. At Aquanat we run classes and therapy sessions for every stage: newborns from 10 weeks, toddlers and kids building real skills, private one-on-one lessons for any age or ability, and aquatic therapy support for pregnancy and babies in breech position. Same warm 34-35°C pool, same small, hands-on team, every time. If you're not sure where you'd fit, just ask, we'll point you in the right direction. 💙

Short answer: there isn't a checklist.
No age babies need to hit first, no weight to reach, no milestone to wait for just you, deciding you're ready to get in the water with them. That's genuinely the whole prerequisite. From 10 weeks old, babies can start settling into the water, and the earlier they're introduced, the less "new" it ever feels to them.
What makes it work isn't timing it perfectly, it's the environment, our pool stays at 34-35°C, classes are kept small, and nothing is rushed. Even the most sensitive babies ease in without a fight. If you're weighing it up, send us a message and we'll help you figure out what makes sense for your family. 🌊

This may be controversial but, small classes aren't a marketing line for us, it's how the lessons actually work.
With a max of 6 kids, our instructors can genuinely see what each child needs whether that's more confidence-building or they're ready to move ahead.
It's a bigger investment in staffing, but it's the reason families stick with us for years.

In our baby swimming lessons, we don't use songs simply to fill class time or keep children entertained. We use just a handful of carefully chosen songs, and each one has a specific learning purpose behind it.

Every song becomes a cue. It prepares babies for a movement, introduces a new skill, encourages participation, and helps them anticipate what's about to happen. Those familiar words, rhythms, and actions become part of how they learn.

Babies thrive on repetition and ritual. When those rituals are used with intention and evolve as children's skills develop, they become powerful teaching tools. They help little ones feel safe and relaxed while also supporting the development of new skills in a way that speaks to them.

Comfort is part of it. Learning is the purpose. And when the two come together, that's where the magic happens. 🌊

That wobbly, arms-out, full-concentration walk across the mat is doing more than it looks like. It's balance, it's focus, it's trusting that the water will hold them, and it ends exactly where they want it to, in mum's arms.
Little milestones like this one are why we love what we do.🐳💙

It looks simple, but this little cup-pouring moment is doing a lot of work. It's how we introduce water on the face in a way bub can control and get used to. It's also an initial indication of readiness for submersions.
Every technique we use has a reason behind it and a specific way to do it. This is one of our favourites to explain because parents are always surprised by how much it helps. It's also something they can practice during bath time at home :)

This is what a few months of lessons looks like...
Watch closely, this isn't a trick, it's the result of small, consistent steps built up over weeks. Every wobbly first attempt led to this.
If you're only seeing the highlight reel, know there were a dozen quieter lessons that got them here.

If you are thinking to start swimming lessons with you bubba, this may be your sign!

This is our big "Why🥹💙🩵🤍"
Aquanat started with Anat, our founder, and a simple belief that teaching a baby to feel safe in water is one of the most important things you can give them early on.
Years later, that's still exactly what drives every class we run at Alfred Cove.
Family-run, still hands-on, still the same reason we started.
Come and say hi!

It's a question we get a lot, especially this time of year, "won't they be cold?" Nope. ☺️Our pool sits at hydrotherapy temperature all year round, which means winter or summer, bub is just as comfortable in the water.
It's one of those small details that makes a big difference to how much they enjoy their lesson.
