Last week, our Professional Year students at the National Institute of Technology had an incredible opportunity: a mock interview session with industry professionals across a range of sectors.
Here are the key takeaways our students walked away with:
โ
Dress the part โ professional attire was already a standout strength. Keep it up.
๐ฏ Know your why โ be clear on your 3โ5 year career goals and how the role you're applying for helps you get there.
๐ค The AI question is real โ be ready to articulate what you bring to the table that AI cannot.
๐ฃ๏ธ Soft skills are your superpower โ refine your resume to reflect behavioural strengths, not just technical ones.
๐ It's okay not to know everything โ show curiosity and potential rather than pretending expertise you don't have.
๐ช Own your story with confidence โ communicate your experiences and achievements with clarity and conviction.
โญ Master the STAR method โ Situation, Task, Action, Result. Practice it until it's second nature.
โฑ๏ธ Your intro pitch matters โ keep it concise, compelling, and under 60 seconds.
๐ฏ Apply strategically โ focus on roles that genuinely align with your skills and strengths.
A huge thank you to our incredible panel of industry guests who gave their time and insights to support our students' journey. And a special shoutout to the Melbourne team for making this session happen! ๐

๐ The first five years in tech:
At a recent ACS ( Australian Computer Society) panel, industry professionals shared what really matters early on.
๐ฟ๐ค๐ช๐๐ก๐๐จ ๐๐ค๐๐๐ง๐ฉ๐จ๐ค๐ฃ highlighted the importance of mindset over skillset, encouraging professionals to invest early in learning and adapt to how AI is changing roles.
๐๐๐ ๐๐๐ช๐ฎ๐๐ฃ: focused on taking action โ understanding job market expectations and not waiting for the โperfect timeโ to start.
๐๐ช๐ข๐๐ฃ ๐๐๐ง๐๐ฌ๐๐ง: reminded us that growth comes from connecting technical work with real business impact.
โจ The message was clear: itโs not just about technical skills โ itโs about how you think, communicate, and create value.
As a Series Partner, weโre proud to support initiatives that help shape the next generation of tech professionals.
