Last night Sensei Ramon Lawrence OAM (7th Dan Renshi) presented Ben van Deijl with his Godan (5th Dan) certificate, and Tim Lawrence with his Nidan (2nd Dan) certificate.

Timothy Lawrence, Budokan Academy Southern River, won the Australian Kendo Renmei, Iaido Nidan (2nd Dan) Individual Competition at the 33rd AKR Iaido Championships held in Sydney, 28th September 2025.

Congratulations to our teams from Budokan Academy, taking out 1st and 2nd place in the Western Taikai Iaido Competition last weekend! 🥳👏🏻🏆

Registrations for the 2025 Western Taikai are now open! 🥳🏆🏅

The Western Taikai combines all three arts (Iaido, Jodo and Kendo), allowing our WA community to come together and compete side-by-side. All three arts will be competing throughout the day, so there will be plenty to see!

Members: Check your inbox for the WAKR AGM and Taikai sign-up email for the Registration Link and instructions.

Registrations close Sunday 10th of August. A $10 registration fee is required for each competitor to enter into the Taikai.

Spectators and anyone interested in learning more about our martial arts are welcome to come along and watch throughout the day!

Peter Woolmer receiving his Iaido 6th Dan Menjo (certificate) at tonight’s training. Peter passed his 6th Dan in Japan on the 3rd March.

Congratulations to Peter Woolmer who today passed his Iaido 6th Dan in Japan. We are by far the most successful Iaido dojo in the country with 3x 7th Dans and a new 6th Dan.

No other dojo in Australia can boast this success - so we must be doing something right. So much for the “oh, they do the Budokan Academy method”.

We have an excellent Japanese Sensei who goes far and beyond in teaching us correctly and giving us full support. Our “Budokan Academy methodology” is his teaching methodology.
