Spaces to run, to create and to imagine. A treehouse, a river, an island. For more than 50 years, McDougall Park Community Kindergarten has been providing children the opportunity to explore and take risks, to create, grow and make mistakes (both the kids and their parents), to make friends, to learn and to play. Our play-centered approach and our community structure makes for a magical first year of schooling.

This Fathers Day, we welcomed our dads and special paternal figures to join their little ones for a morning of fun, connection and a little bit of hard
work!

Our special Tinkering Zone incursion by Educated By Nature had everyone getting hands on with hammering and drilling, giving our little builders the chance to create, explore and learn alongside someone dear to their hearts.

Happy Education Assistants (EA) Appreciation Week!

Behind every magical kindy day is our EA Ms Byrne sprinkling her sparkle and glitter!

For the past 6 years and counting, Ms Byrne has been a reassuring presence who helps to nurture and create little moments that become the McDougall Magic. From dressing up as an Italian Chef to rescuing runaway animals who sought refuge in the kindy grounds, she brings creativity, enthusiasm and a whole lot of fun to everything she does! Ms Byrne considers our Kindy children her colleagues as she meets our children where they are, follows their imaginations and helps them create their own McDougall magic.

A little cutting, a little arranging, a little gluing... And plenty of fun along the way!

With music playing, good food shared and our teaching team joining in, it was the perfect excuse for our Kindy grown-ups to get together, get creative and enjoy some time as a community.

And the final result?

Over the years, we've been incredibly fortunate to have the support of our local, state and Federal politicians.

Their support has come in so many meaningful ways such as championing our Kindy through grants, advocacy and event promotion. And we love it when our pollies come to read us books!

To all our elected officials who have supported Kindy over the years, thank you for investing in our youngest learners. Your investment has helped create countless magical moments for generations of children.

Little chefs with big decisions!

There's something special about creating a meal that's uniquely your own. Our children recently became pizza chefs for the day. We discussed the importance of hygiene, explored maths by measuring the ingredients and got each child to knead the dough.

By offering children opportunities to make choices, we are helping them to build confidence, independence, and a sense of ownership. The sweetest moment of the day was witnessing their beaming faces as they proudly showed their finished pizzas to caregivers during pick up!

With just 20 children attending each day and free street parking available a few steps away from the kindy’s entrance, drop-offs and pick-ups are calmer, unhurried, and personal.

There's time for a warm welcome and a gentle transition into the day.And when it's time to head home, there's space to hear about the adventures, discoveries and magical moments that made the day special.

No crowded gates. No rushed goodbyes. Just a calm start and a happy finish.Because sometimes, it's the little things that make the biggest difference.

At McDougall Kindy, children are encouraged to move because children learn best when they can move freely.

Children are able to freely explore our beautiful treehouse, fairy garden, ride bikes around the playground, swing on the flying fox and more. These purpose-built facilities encourage our little ones to learn through movement, increasing their gross and fine motor skills.

Did you know that community kindergartens are required to deliver the same curriculum (The Early Years Learning Framework) as every on-site public kindy? It is HOW we deliver the curriculum which sets us apart.

We believe that play is at the heart of learning. Literacy and numeracy skills are intentionally built into innovative and engaging play. Every game, adventure and discovery helps to nurture our little ones’ curiosity, creativity, confidence and development in a way that feels natural and joyful.
