πŸ’œ After a dementia diagnosis, many families tell me they feel overwhelmed by appointments, paperwork, and trying to keep track of important information.

In this reel, I share one simple strategy that can help: creating a home medical file.

It's a practical way to stay organised, support communication with healthcare providers, and reduce some of the mental load that often falls on families.

If you'd like more practical, strengths-based strategies like this, I'd love to invite you to my free webinar, Dementia Made Simpleβ„’.

I recently joined a Support at Home Facebook community group to provide helpful tips and also promote my dementia education program.

Well, this program sounds like a total SH*TSHOW!!!

Having worked in community rehabilitation for over 20 years, I have watched our health system go from:

"What is community therapy?" (that was Perth in 2001)....to providing genuinely person-centred, quality therapy services in the home through home care packages and restorative programs.

Now we have Support at Home, and from what I am seeing, families are stressed, anxious, confused, and spending hours trying to chase down explanations for every single extra billed item.

As a small business owner, I understand the enormous cost of running a business. I understand that hourly rates need to reflect all the extras involved in delivering a quality service.

But W.H.A.T. I.S. G.O.I.N.G. O.N?

Why are families trying to decipher invoices like they need an accounting degree?

Why are people worried about making a phone call because it might trigger another charge?

Why does it seem harder, not easier, to access support?

Maybe I'm missing something, but from the conversations I am reading, many families feel overwhelmed before services have even started.

Support at Home was supposed to simplify things.

At the moment, it aeems like many people are spending more time navigating the system than receiving support from it.

Am I the only one seeing this?

I'd genuinely love to hear other perspectives.

When a friend is living with dementia they need you MORE THAN EVER πŸ’–.

Try shifting away from relying on memory or recall, and focus on enjoying the present moment together.

You can absolutely still talk about the past and share memories, but it helps to remove the pressure for them to remember details, names and events.

Instead:
✨ Have fun
✨ Be curious
✨ Follow their lead
✨ Focus on c***ection, not correction

A relaxed, supportive conversation can help a person continue feeling included, valued, and c***ected.
