A Little Excursion, Big Learning!

Classroom 5 recently took a small adventure beyond our service, walking to the front of the centre to observe the world around us.
Settling along the footpath, the children became curious observers of the movement, colours and patterns of our local community. Together, we identified the different coloured cars passing by and kept tallies of some of the colours we spotted, turning a simple walk into a meaningful mathematical investigation.

🔴🟡🔵

We also explored the many forms of transport moving through our community — from trucks and buses to utes and cars - sharing our ideas and observations along the way.

Our attention was then captured by the construction site across the road, where we watched the tradies at work, observing the machinery and the process of moving and removing sand. 🚧👷

Through this small excursion, the children were able to connect with their local community, explore mathematical concepts, develop observational skills and follow their natural curiosity.

A reminder that learning doesn’t always need to happen inside the classroom — sometimes, our greatest provocations are right outside our door.

Have you come along to one of our Nest & Nurture sessions?

Nest & Nurture was created after hearing our families share that they wanted more opportunities to connect with other parents, build community and access supports around their parenting journey.

So, we created a space to do just that!
Each month, we offer something a little different, with sessions designed to support connection, wellbeing, learning and community. So far, we’ve explored yoga , created clay magnets and welcomed support around pelvic floor health.

And now, we'd love to hear from you!

What would you love to see at a future Nest & Nurture session? Perhaps a workshop, activity, guest speaker or simply an opportunity to connect with other families?

Our sessions are open to the wider community, and we would love to see more families join us.

What would you like us to Nurture next? We’d love to hear your ideas!

🌱✨ Parent–Teacher Meetings ✨🌱

Twice a year, we open our doors for Parent–Teacher Meetings, creating a space for meaningful conversations, connection and collaboration between families and our educators.

Inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach, we see families as valued partners in their child’s learning journey. These conversations allow us to share observations, celebrate children’s strengths and emerging interests, and reflect together on their learning, development and wellbeing.

It is through these shared perspectives - what we notice, what families notice at home, and the children’s own voices — that we can build a richer understanding of each child and create meaningful opportunities for their learning to continue across both home and our learning environment. 💛

Together, we listen, reflect, wonder and plan for what comes next. 🌿✨

🔬✨ Science Week in Classroom 3 ✨🔬

This week, our curiosity led us into an exploration of light, shadows, colour, movement and cause & effect. 💡🌈

Through open-ended play, the children experimented with colourful bubble projections, discovering what happened when they moved, covered and interacted with the light. We wondered together, “Where did the light go?” and watched as our shadows changed and moved.

We also introduced sensory wands, shaking and moving them to observe the patterns and movement they created. One child made a wonderful connection, noticing that the movement of the sensory wand was similar to the movement of our projected bubbles- a beautiful example of children making their own connections and developing theories through exploration. ✨

Using animal puppets, the children extended their thinking and imagination, making animals hop, walk and fly through the light while identifying and exploring different colours. 🐾
A meaningful Science Week experience where the children were able to wonder, investigate, make connections, test ideas and build knowledge through play. 🌱

Classroom 4 (2-3yr old) has been embedding Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) actions into the curriculum while extending children's interest in dinosaurs through intentional learning experiences. Educators incorporated First Nations perspectives by exploring Aboriginal stories, artwork, and connections to Country, encouraging children to consider the natural world, Australia's landscapes, and the animals that lived here long ago. This inquiry-based approach has fostered cultural understanding while building on children's curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking.
