Our Year 6 students recently took part in their Confirmation Retreat at St Mary’s Cathedral. Students had the special opportunity to tour the Cathedral, learning more about its history, significance and the beautiful features within this sacred space. A special part of the day was celebrating Mass together at St Mary’s Cathedral, where we were grateful to be joined by many of our parents and families. It was a meaningful day of faith, reflective activities and preparation as our Year 6 students continue on their Confirmation journey. 🕊️🔥

Our group was privileged to learn from First Nations’ local guides, Johani and Clive, who shared their knowledge, stories, and connection to this coastline with generosity and care. From intertidal walking to traditional foraging, every moment was grounded in respect, cultural learning, and a sense of shared purpose. St Mary’s College welcomed Sacred Heart and Chisholm Catholic College for the Kimberley Innovation Festival in August — two days of innovative, connected learning grounded in Country. Our Sacred Heart students and staff were proud to contribute workshops, collaborate across campuses, and learn from the deep knowledge held within the Kimberley community. We were especially proud of the way our students stepped forward with confidence, curiosity and generosity, representing our school with real heart.

HEART OF HIGHGATE PODCAST Sacred Heart Primary School launched its own student‑led podcast, The Heart of Highgate, in 2026. Created and driven by our Year 6 students, the podcast strengthens student voice, leadership, and connection across our school community.
Students have been involved at every stage — planning episode topics, writing scripts, recording and editing, interviewing guests, and sharing news and events from around Sacred Heart. Through this work, they are developing valuable skills in communication, collaboration, interviewing, public speaking, time management, and project planning. Most importantly, they are gaining firsthand experience in taking an idea from concept to a polished final product.
Our first two episodes are now live. We are proud to share The Heart of Highgate with our community and look forward to watching our students continue to shape and grow the podcast throughout the year. Catholic Education WA

CITY-COUNTRY PARTNERSHIP Sacred Heart students and staff were on the move this week — travelling from Whadjuk Noongar Boodjar to Yawuru Country to join our partnership schools, Chisholm Catholic College and St Mary’s College, for the Kimberley Innovation Festival.

It’s a journey that carries more than kilometres. Our students step from one Country to another with respect, curiosity, and a deep sense of connection — ready to learn, share, and celebrate alongside their peers in Broome.

This festival is more than an event; it’s a living partnership. City and country students coming together, strengthening ties, honouring culture, and building friendships that stretch across Western Australia — generously supported by the Yadha Muru Foundation, whose commitment makes this collaboration possible.

N A T I O N A L S C I E N C E W E E K Our students explored the wonders of science at our “Seeds for Science” Expo. A heartfelt thank you to our Science Specialist, Mrs McCormack, for designing an engaging, hands‑on program that brought science to life for our students.

We also extend our thanks to guest speakers Penny Arrow from Cygnet Bay Pearls and Liam Holloway from Mend Consulting, who shared fascinating insights into the world of pearling, the innovative use of drones in agriculture, and the many ways science is shaping our future.

Inspired by real‑world applications of science and technology, students then moved into a series of practical classroom workshop sessions. From investigating and creating to problem‑solving and exploring new technologies, the day was filled with curiosity, excitement, and meaningful learning for all.

C E W A S T E M S H O W C A S E Celebrating the work of our Sacred Heart students in STEM is always a great pleasure. The CEWA STEM Showcase, hosted this year at Mercy Catholic College, saw Sacred Heart present five enthusiastic teams from Years 4, 5 and 6.

Our students followed the Sacred Heart STEM Design Process to develop prototypes, models and solutions to real‑world problems and recognised environmental challenges. Their creativity, teamwork and problem‑solving were on full display throughout the day.

Thank you to the CEWA STEM team for coordinating this valuable learning experience. We also extend our thanks to the staff members who travelled from our partner school, St Mary’s Primary School in Kalgoorlie, to join our Sacred Heart students and staff for this year’s showcase.
