This National Reconciliation Week, staff across all sites have been coming together to reflect, learn and engage in the journey of reconciliation, with both in-person and online participation throughout the week.
Our Aboriginal Advisory Group, Board, and staff representatives attended the National Reconciliation Week Breakfast in Boorloo, with many of our team tuning in online. The morning included an amazing breakfast followed by empowering speeches and powerful truth-telling, highlighting the importance of connection, understanding and walking together. The team was especially inspired by Narelda Jacobs, whose words left a lasting impact.
Staff also attended the Aboriginal Veterans Service “We Will Remember Them” event in recognition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander veterans and their service to our country. It was a meaningful and moving event filled with reflection, respect and remembrance. A very special moment was witnessing one of our team members lay a wreath in honour of her grandfather, paying tribute to his service and legacy.
Our team also attended a Sorry Day event hosted by Yokai Healing Our Spirit and Bringing Them Home, including a Welcome to Country, Smoking Ceremony and a moment of silence at the Stolen Generations Memorial.
This year’s theme, “All In for Reconciliation,” reminds us that reconciliation is everyone’s responsibility and meaningful change happens when we all come together and play our part.
Tomorrow marks the start of National Reconciliation Week, a time for all Australians to reflect, learn and take action towards a more united future, grounded in respect, understanding and our shared histories.
Today, we also recognise National Sorry Day and acknowledge the ongoing impact of forced removal on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, families and communities.
At Ngala, our Ngalang Moort Ngalang Kurlangah program supports Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families with young children aged 0 to 4 years, creating culturally safe spaces where children can play, learn and thrive.
Delivered by Aboriginal staff for families in the City of Swan, the program also offers workshops, home visits and connections to other services.
In this video, our team member Mystique shares what reconciliation means to her and how Ngalang Moort Ngalang Kurlangah will be recognising the week with children and families in their playgroups.
We will also be sharing more updates throughout the week on other events and activities we are proud to be part of.

How good does our new Acknowledgement of Country artwork look?
We worked with Nani Creative and their talented local artists, with cultural input from our internal Aboriginal Advisory Group, to create this bespoke piece of art that helps explain the meaning of Ngala in a contemporary and eye-catching way.
We're proud of it, and proud of the steps we are taking to make our spaces culturally safe and welcoming for all families.
Developed by Nani Creative in collaboration with Ngala and First Nations artists Kieron Pearce (Menang/Noongar) and Kevin Wilson (Wongutha).

Play isn’t just fun, it’s how babies learn 💜

When we take calls on our Parenting Line we're never quite sure what support the caller will need, which means some calls can take 5 minutes and others can take an hour. We'll never cut a call short if a parent needs us.
It does mean call wait times can be a little unpredictable so we want to just remind everyone you can fill out a form on our website and have our team call you back. We call everyone back as soon as we possibly can - it's a good option if sitting on hold isn't possible.
