A brilliant week of Learning at EAST KENWICK OSHC🔬⚗️🔭
What a brilliant and exciting week we had at East Kenwick OSHC! 🌟 The children were actively engaged in a wide range of hands-on experiences that supported their learning, creativity, curiosity, physical development and social skills. Throughout the week, the children had many opportunities to explore their own ideas, make choices, work collaboratively with their peers and learn through play. It was wonderful to see their enthusiasm and excitement as they experimented, created, moved and discovered new things together. 💛✨
🔬🧪 Scientific Exploration and Experiments: The children became little scientists as they explored different scientific reactions and experimented with a variety of everyday materials. They investigated the reaction between lemon juice and baking soda 🍋🧪, watching carefully as the ingredients reacted and created bubbles. The children were encouraged to make predictions, observe what happened and discuss their ideas with their friends and educators. They also explored colour experiments 🎨🌈, noticing how colours changed and interacted with one another. During the soda and vinegar pop-bag experiment, the children were excited to observe the reaction and eagerly waited to see what would happen. Through these experiences, children developed early scientific concepts such as cause and effect, observation, prediction and investigation. 💡👀🎈⚡ Another exciting experience was exploring static electricity using balloons. The children rubbed balloons and experimented with different materials to see what would happen. They were fascinated by the way the balloon could attract or move objects and were keen to repeat the experiment. This experience encouraged children to ask questions, test their ideas and develop an understanding that some things cannot be seen but can still have an effect. 🔎✨
🌱🥕 Creating Our OSHC Veggie Garden: The children also worked together to create our OSHC veggie garden. 🌿🌻 They enjoyed being involved in preparing and planning the garden and developing an understanding of how plants grow and what they need to stay healthy. Through this experience, children developed a sense of responsibility and care for living things. Working together also encouraged cooperation, communication, turn-taking and teamwork. 🤝💚 The garden provides an ongoing opportunity for children to observe growth and change and to develop a stronger connection with nature. 🌱☀️
🏃♀️Physical activity was another important part of our week. The children used their creativity to design and create their own obstacle courses, deciding where different challenges should be placed and how they could be completed. They enjoyed jumping, balancing, climbing, running and moving through the course. 🏃♂️💨 These experiences supported gross motor development, balance, coordination, body awareness and confidence. Children also practised negotiating with their peers, sharing ideas and taking turns while creating and using the obstacle course. ⭐
🎨Creativity was encouraged through a variety of art and craft experiences. The children enjoyed making spinning wheels and cardboard robots, using their imagination to transform simple materials into creative constructions. 🤖🎨 They made decisions about colours, shapes and designs and proudly shared their creations with others. These experiences supported fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, concentration and creative thinking. ✂️🖍️
❤️🎨 The children also explored ways of expressing their emotions through art. They used colours, drawings and creative materials to represent their feelings and ideas. This provided an opportunity for children to talk about different emotions and recognise that everyone may express their feelings in different ways. 😊😌😄 Through this experience, children were supported to develop emotional awareness, confidence and a sense of belonging within the OSHC environment.
🔢⭐ The children enjoyed maths dot games, making mathematical learning fun and engaging. They practised counting, recognising numbers, matching quantities and solving simple problems while playing with their peers. 🔢🧠 These experiences encouraged children to use mathematical thinking naturally within play and supported their concentration and problem-solving abilities.
🌟 Across all of these experiences, the children demonstrated curiosity, creativity, persistence, confidence, cooperation and problem-solving skills. They were willing to try new things, make predictions, ask questions and learn from their experiences. 💡🌈 They communicated their ideas with educators and peers, listened to others and worked together to achieve shared goals. The week provided rich opportunities for children to learn through meaningful play while developing skills across science, mathematics, physical activity, creativity, communication and emotional wellbeing. 🌱🔬🎨🔢🏃♀️❤️
It was truly wonderful to see the children’s excitement, imagination and confidence throughout the week. Every experience provided a chance to explore, discover and learn something new.🩵🩵🩵
