This week, the children immersed themselves in an exciting **Ocean Week** ๐, engaging in a variety of hands-on experiences that encouraged creativity ๐จ, scientific thinking ๐ฌ, environmental awareness ๐ฑ, and physical development ๐คธโโ๏ธ. Through play-based learning, children explored the fascinating world beneath the sea ๐ while developing important social, cognitive, and motor skills.
The week began with creative ocean-themed art activities ๐จ, including making jellyfish ๐ชผ from recycled materials such as paper cups, bottle caps, and paper plates. Children demonstrated imagination and problem-solving skills as they selected materials and designed their unique sea creatures. Discussions about marine life ๐ข๐ณ encouraged children to share their prior knowledge and ask questions about ocean animals and habitats.
Throughout the week, children participated in sensory and science experiences ๐ฌ๐ง, including water play, floating and sinking investigations, and ocean-themed setups ๐. They explored how different objects behave in water, made predictions, tested their ideas, and reflected on their discoveries. Children as Leaders at East Kenwick OSHC ๐
This week at East Kenwick OSHC, our children embraced the opportunity to become leaders of their own learning. ๐ง๐ฆ They were encouraged to choose activities that interested them, allowing them to explore their passions, make decisions, and develop independence. It was wonderful to see the children confidently selecting experiences that brought them joy and sparked their curiosity. โจ
๐จ Our creative corners were especially popular, where children transformed their imaginations into reality. They created beautiful โ๏ธ clouds and ๐ rainbows using paper cupcake liners, designed โ๏ธ paper aeroplanes, made ๐ nature faces, and produced stunning leaf art collages. Other creative experiences included making โ๏ธ snow fluff, drawing portraits of beautiful nature scenes ๐ผ๏ธ, and practising leaf threading to strengthen fine motor skills.
๐ฟ The children also enjoyed exploring and discovering the natural world through a nature discovery walk ๐ถโโ๏ธ๐ถโโ๏ธ, where they observed their environment and collected natural materials for their creations. Construction and problem-solving skills were developed through connecting blocks ๐งฉ, while physical wellbeing was supported through ๐คธ gymnastics activities, ๐ฅ martial arts demonstrations, and balancing challenges such as the "cup on the head and pass the ball" game ๐.
๐ฌ Our young scientists enthusiastically participated in science experiments and explored the fascinating process of ๐ฑ photosynthesis. Creativity and confidence shone brightly during the ๐ค talent show, where children proudly shared their unique skills and talents with their peers.
๐ก One of the highlights of the week was making leak-proof bags, which encouraged critical thinking, experimentation, and perseverance. Throughout all activities, children demonstrated ๐ค teamwork, ๐ฌ communication, ๐จ creativity, and ๐ช resilience.
๐ฅ To make Friday extra special, the children enjoyed a delicious pancake breakfast. It was a wonderful way to celebrate the week, spend time together, and create happy memories. ๐ The excitement and smiles on their faces showed just how much they appreciated this special treat.

This week at East Kenwick OSHC, the children engaged in a variety of meaningful and hands-on experiences inspired by the themes of SES Volunteers and National Sorry Day. Through creative play, teamwork activities, discussions, and art experiences, the children explored ideas about helping others, caring for the environment, friendship, kindness, and community responsibility. ๐๐
To begin the week, the children enthusiastically created their own SES volunteers using cups and craft materials. They confidently communicated with one another, shared ideas, and discussed how volunteers help people during emergencies. The children demonstrated creativity, collaboration, and problem-solving while building their โVoluntreeโ models and rescue characters. ๐ณ๐
The children participated in an exciting Bucket Brigade Relay, where they worked together to transfer water from one bucket to another during a timed team challenge. This activity encouraged teamwork, communication, cooperation, and perseverance while helping the children understand how SES volunteers work together during emergencies such as floods and storms. ๐ฆ๐ชฃ
During Rescue Role Play, the children pretended to be SES volunteers responding to storms, floods, and missing person searches. Using dramatic play resources, the children took on different roles including rescuers, helpers, and community members needing assistance. They excitedly shared comments such as, โWe need to save the animals!โ and โLetโs help the family get to safety!โ Through this experience, the children developed empathy, leadership skills, confidence, and an understanding of helping others in times of need. ๐จ๐ง๏ธ
The children also explored engineering and creativity through a Mini Boat Rescue Challenge, where they designed and built small boats that could carry toy animals safely through โflood water.โ The children experimented with different materials, tested their ideas, and worked collaboratively to solve problems. This hands-on STEM experience promoted critical thinking, persistence, and teamwork. ๐ค๐พ
As part of our emergency awareness activities, the children created their own Mini Emergency Kits by discussing important items needed during emergencies, such as flashlights, water, food, and first aid supplies. This experience encouraged children to think about safety, preparedness, and caring for others in the community. ๐ฉน๐
The children also took part in an Obstacle Rescue Course, where they crawled, balanced, jumped, and carried โrescuedโ toys safely through challenges. This active experience strengthened gross motor skills, coordination, resilience, and cooperative play while connecting to the important work SES volunteers do. ๐โโ๏ธ๐ง
To express gratitude, the children created colourful Thank You Posters for SES Volunteers. They decorated their posters with drawings, messages, and symbols of appreciation while discussing the importance of volunteers in the community. The children proudly shared comments such as, โThank you for helping people!โ and โSES volunteers are heroes!โ ๐๐
In recognition of National Sorry Day, the children engaged in meaningful discussions during a Nature Walk and Yarning Circle. Together, the children explored the outdoor environment, listened respectfully, and shared ideas about caring, belonging, kindness, and respect for one another and the land. The yarning circle provided opportunities for children to develop listening skills, cultural awareness, confidence, and empathy. ๐ฟ๐งก
The children created a beautiful Sorry Sun artwork using natural resources and positive messages about kindness and inclusion. Through this collaborative art experience, the children reflected on friendship, caring for others, and showing respect. โ๏ธ๐ค
During the Role Play Donating Books and Toys experience, the children pretended to pack donations for families and children in need. They demonstrated generosity, teamwork, and compassion while learning that sharing and helping others can make a positive difference in the community. ๐๐งธ๐
The children also participated in Hands of Kindness activities, where they traced and decorated handprints with kind words and thoughtful messages. This experience encouraged emotional expression, inclusion, and positive social interactions. โ๐

At East Kenwick OSHC, children enthusiastically participated in ๐ฆRoad Safety Week๐ฆ, engaging in a variety of hands-on experiences that supported their understanding of staying safe on the road and while riding bikes ๐ฒ. Throughout the week, children showed excitement, curiosity, and growing confidence as they explored important road safety concepts through play-based learning ๐.
The week began with brainstorming sessions and group discussions ๐ญ where children shared their ideas about road safety and identified important rules for keeping themselves and others safe ๐. Children actively contributed their thoughts and demonstrated developing awareness of traffic rules, pedestrian safety ๐ถ, and safe behaviours near roads.
Children participated in engaging games such as โ๐ด Red Light, ๐ข Green Light and ๐ Orange,โ traffic light games ๐ฅ, balancing challenges, and โStop, Look and Listenโ pretend play activities ๐๐. These experiences encouraged children to practise self-regulation, listening skills, following directions, and understanding traffic signals in a fun and meaningful way ๐.
Creative learning opportunities included making road signs using magnets and LEGO ๐งฑ, creating driver licences ๐ชช, traffic light collages ๐จ, and road safety puppets ๐ญ. Children used their imagination and problem-solving skills while strengthening fine motor development and collaborative play ๐ค. During the roadside treasure hunt ๐ and role-play safe play area, children confidently applied their understanding of road rules and safe decision-making.
One highlight of the week was the seatbelt egg drop experiment ๐ฅ, where children explored the importance of wearing seatbelts through hands-on investigation ๐. This activity encouraged prediction, critical thinking, and conversations about how safety devices protect us ๐ก.
The highlight of the activity was watching the children role-play driving at the correct speed while paying attention to road signs. The atmosphere was filled with giggles and excitement.
Children demonstrated a strong understanding of traffic light colours ๐ฆ and their meanings, confidently identifying when to stop โ, wait โณ, and go โถ๏ธ. They showed increasing confidence in role-play scenarios, deepening their understanding of road safety regulations while engaging positively with peers ๐.
Road Safety Week provided rich opportunities for children to build confidence ๐, develop safety awareness ๐ธ, and strengthen communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills ๐ง .

This week at East Kenwick OSHC, the children enthusiastically participated in a variety of activities centred around the theme of Family and Community Connections ๐จโ๐ฉโ๐งโ๐ฆ. Through creative experiences, collaborative games, and meaningful discussions, the children explored what family means to them and how they connect with the people around them ๐.
During our indoor experiences, children created family trees ๐ณโป๏ธ, family portraits ๐๏ธ๐ผ๏ธ, poems โ๏ธ๐, and recipe cookbooks ๐ฒ๐. These activities encouraged children to share stories about their families, express their creativity ๐จ, and build confidence in communicating their ideas ๐ฃ๏ธ. Many children proudly discussed special traditions, favourite meals ๐๐ฅ, and important people in their lives while working on their projects.
Outdoors ๐โโ๏ธ๐, the children engaged in teamwork-based games including tug of war ๐ช, balancing challenges โ๏ธ, obstacle courses ๐โโ๏ธ๐ชข, and community adventure walks ๐ถโโ๏ธ๐ฟ. These experiences promoted cooperation, resilience, problem-solving ๐งฉ, and physical development. Children demonstrated excellent teamwork by encouraging one another ๐ค, taking turns ๐, and celebrating each otherโs achievements ๐.
Throughout the week, children developed a stronger sense of belonging and identity ๐ while building positive relationships with peers and educators ๐ค. This week at East Kenwick OSHC was filled with excitement, creativity, and heartfelt moments as our children prepared to celebrate the special mums and mum-like figures in their families โค๏ธ. The children were fully engaged in making thoughtful gifts, including handmade flowers ๐ท, flower pots ๐ชด, bracelets ๐, bath salts body scrubs ๐ซง, family photo frames ๐ผ๏ธ, coupon books ๐, paper handbags ๐, plastic bag flowers ๐บ, and plaster of Paris creations ๐จ. Each child poured their creativity and care into their work, demonstrating incredible focus and pride in their achievements โจ.
Beyond the arts and crafts, the children showed remarkable leadership and initiative throughout the week ๐ช. They took on responsibilities such as serving breakfast under educators supervision๐ณ, setting up an obstacle course ๐โโ๏ธ๐โโ๏ธ, and leading games ๐ฏ, demonstrating teamwork, confidence, and a sense of community ๐ค. The joy and satisfaction on their faces while helping others was truly priceless ๐.
