This is great news, and a wonderful step towards increasing online safety.

Does your child play Roblox? 🎮

The gaming platform recently announced updates to its parental controls and protections for young people.

Parents and carers can now access parental controls from their own devices 📲 According to Roblox, this enables them to remotely:
✅ View their child’s friends list
⏱️ Monitor screen time and set daily limits
💬 Manage chat settings
⚠️ Set content maturity limits.

Roblox is also adjusting restrictions around how children under 13 can communicate on the platform, along with default content maturity limits.

➡ Visit The eSafety Guide to find key safety links and to learn more about the benefits and risks of using online games and apps like Roblox: https://www.esafety.gov.au/key-topics/esafety-guide/roblox

We can love our children unconditionally, but still not accept behaviour towards us, others, and themselves that is detrimental to their future development, identity, and relationships.

We can show and express love no matter the scenario, but we can also express our concerns around negative and destructive behaviours by putting boundaries in place. Not only does this protect others from the negative impact of their behaviour, but it also protects them by reinforcing that they don’t need to accept actions from others that they are uncomfortable with, or that are harmful to them, just to show love.

Being firm in our own boundaries, and expecting our children to respect this, goes a long way towards teaching them how to respect and reinforce their own.

BE OUR GUEST!

Everyone has a story to tell, and for this start-up podcast I'm looking for people who have recognised intergenerational trauma/dysfunction within their families, and have taken action to break away from old patterns, heal, and start their own parenting journey in a different direction. We'll be talking about the positive aspects, along with the struggles that come along with forging your own path for the benefit of yourself and your children.

You can choose to only be identified by your first name, or to use a pseudonym, and your image won't be used if you're telling your own story.

If you have a personal story to tell, or you're a small business owner who offers services or education that can help families experiencing these difficulties, please send an application through by using this link https://www.thepreparedparent.com.au/pages/be-our-guest

Sharing the love with others can be just what you need for your own mental health.

Hugging releases oxytocin, which can do wonders for your nervous system, lowering your stress levels and improving your mood.

Will you take on today's challenge?

Resilience can be developed in so many safe ways.

Contrary to popular opinion, children who experience bullying at school and online do not come out stronger on the other side. In fact, they have higher rates of mental health issues and suicidal ideation, and suffer from lifelong issues forming healthy relationships due to broken trust and an inability to feel safe.

Create opportunities to help your children develop resilience through activities such as camping, travel, sports, healthy conflict resolution, and even being bored!

As parents, we all have some strategies to help our little ones regulate their big emotions as they happen, but wouldn’t it be great if we could be proactive in helping them to minimise their emotional escalations so that this is the exception in their lives, rather than their standard state of being?

Helping our children to create calm in their inner worlds goes a long way towards creating safety because it can help to:

- Regulate the nervous system
- Reduce stress and panic
- Allow space for rational thinking
- Reduce spontaneous decisions and risk-taking behaviour
- Support positive identity formation
- Build resilience
- Promote positive mental health
- Support positive physical health

Here are some wonderful mindfulness activities that you can implement within your family today https://www.thepreparedparent.com.au/pages/unlocking-their-superpowers

Let's not take the parenting out of gentle parenting 27/12/2024

Let’s not take the ‘parenting’ out of ‘gentle parenting’.

Some thoughts about gentle parenting…

🧡 It’s an amazing way to raise children who are empathic, resilient, adaptable, emotionally regulated, and well-adjusted
🧡 It is a vehicle to developing secure attachment, which is critical to the safety of our children
🧡 It is so often misunderstood and applied incorrectly, that we are slowly but surely having the opposite impact on our children and it’s becoming a risk

We need to be careful not to mistake gentle parenting for permissive parenting.

Here is the difference…

Let's not take the parenting out of gentle parenting The True Art of Gentle Parenting Let's not take the 'parenting' out of 'gentle parenting'.
