A look into todayβs sand and water play πΏπ§
The children have been engaged in exploring sand and water, using their senses to feel different textures, temperatures, and movement. Pouring, scooping, and running their hands through the sand allowed them to observe how materials change and respond.
This type of play supports sensory development as children process what they see, feel, and hear, helping them better understand their environment.
We also observed lovely moments of cooperative play, with children sharing tools, taking turns, and working alongside each other. The repetitive nature of this activity provided a calming effect, supporting self-regulation and focus.
There was a strong sense of pride as they created their own little waterways and sand structures, building confidence through their play.

A closer look at todayβs playdough experience in the room π
The children have been exploring playdough through hands-on, sensory play, using their hands to roll, squash, and shape different creations. It has been great to see them testing ideas and figuring out how to connect and build using their own approach.
During this activity, they were engaging in problem-solving and creative thinking while also developing important fine motor strength in their hands and fingers. Many showed strong focus and persistence, staying with the task as they worked through their ideas.
Playdough has also been a lovely calming activity, giving children space to regulate, settle, and engage at their own pace.
These moments support not just learning, but also confidence and independence in their play.

Building ideas, one connection at a time π§²β¨
Through magnetic shapes, children explore cause and effect as they discover how pieces attract, connect, and sometimes push away. These moments spark curiosity and encourage deeper thinking.
As they design and construct, children develop problem-solving and inquiry skills, using trial and error to balance, connect, and bring their ideas to life.
Along the way, they are building early STEM foundations by exploring shape, space, and patterns in a hands-on and meaningful way.
At Young Explorers Coogee, every play experience is an opportunity to think, create, and discover.

Exploring, creating, and learning through hands-on play β¨
Our little learner is busy glueing. This simple activity supports so much more than just sticking materials together. It helps build fine motor coordination, strengthens handβeye control, and encourages problem-solving through trial and error.
Moments like this also show growing persistence and concentration as children stay engaged to complete their own creations π
At Young Explorers Coogee, we support learning through doing, helping children build confidence through meaningful play.

πΊπ’ Exploring Colours & Shapes π΄π·
Recognising colours and shapes is an important step in early mathematical thinking. Through sorting, matching and classifying, children begin to notice patterns, similarities and differences in the world around them.
As they group objects and test their ideas, they use trial and error to problem-solve β building confidence, inquiry skills and persistence along the way.
These simple, hands-on experiences lay the foundation for numeracy, logical thinking and school readiness β all through play. π

Our little explorers enjoyed a calming and engaging water play experience with sea creatures. As they splashed and explored together, we named whales, turtles, starfish and more β building language skills through simple, meaningful conversations.
Water play is more than just fun. It supports sensory development, encourages small group interaction, and helps children practise sharing and turn-taking in a relaxed environment.
These are the everyday moments where confidence grows and learning feels natural. π

Our little learners have been exploring the wonderful world of bees! We discovered that bees are insects, they live together in a hive, they can fly, and they make delicious honey. π―β¨
Through hands-on craft, creative play, and interactive discussions, children deepened their understanding of how bees live and why they are so important to our environment. Activities like threading, painting, and constructing hives also supported fine motor skills, coordination, and early science concepts.
At Young Explorers Coogee, we turn curiosity into meaningful learning experiences every day. π±
