This week, we welcomed our wonderful friends from Howard Solomon Retirement Village for morning tea as part of our ongoing intergenerational program.

These special visits create opportunities for children and older adults to connect, share stories, build friendships, and learn from one another. The joy, laughter, and genuine connections formed across generations are truly something special, reminding us that we all have so much to learn from each other.

What happens when an idea is revisited again and again?

Our Nursery children’s current inquiry, ‘Mark Making and More’ has become a language of exploration. Rather than offering a new canvas each day, educators have intentionally invited children back to the same creative environment, allowing their thinking to unfold over time.

With each revisit, new materials, mediums and possibilities are introduced. Paint brushes become rollers, charcoal meets sand, and familiar marks are transformed through fresh encounters. The paper becomes a living record of children’s thinking, layered with traces of curiosity, experimentation and discovery.

Today we had the absolute honour of attending the Reconciliation Week Closing Ceremony at Bannister Creek Primary School.

It was wonderful to witness the deeply embedded commitment to reconciliation throughout the school community- reflected through connection, storytelling and a genuine respect for Noongar culture. We are so grateful for opportunities like these that bring communities together and continue the journey of learning, listening and walking alongside one another.

From 27 May to 3 June, we come together to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can commit wholeheartedly to reconciliation every day.

Reconciliation starts with all of us, including our youngest learners. Through moments of curiosity, storytelling, music, art and connection, children begin to build understanding, respect and a sense of belonging.

Because every small conversation, shared experience and learning moment helps us to build towards a more inclusive future, together.

Koolangka’s Yarning Council

A monthly ritual of shared tea and conversation, where children come together as active decision-makers to share ideas, explore thinking, and contribute to how their learning community operates.

‘Koolangka’ (Noongar for children) + ‘Yarning Council’ reflects that this is not a teacher-led meeting, but a shared space of democracy, dialogue, and deep respect for children’s voices.

At Green Leaves Parkwood, listening is not simply something we do. It is how we honour children as powerful contributors to their world and ours.
