๐๐ 8 CLOTHING IDIOMS THAT NATIVE ENGLISH SPEAKERS USE EVERY SINGLE DAY ๐๐
And no, none of them are actually about clothes.
That is the tricky thing about idioms. You cannot translate them word by word. You just have to know them.
And in PTE Listening, when a speaker drops one of these naturally into a conversation, you have about two seconds to understand it before the audio moves on.
So letโs make sure you are ready ๐
1๏ธโฃ Roll up your sleeves = prepare to work hard
2๏ธโฃ Dress for success = wear clothes that make a good impression
3๏ธโฃ Wear many hats = have many different responsibilities
4๏ธโฃ Fit like a glove = fit perfectly
5๏ธโฃ Pull up your socks = improve your performance or effort
6๏ธโฃ Hand me down = something passed from one person to another
7๏ธโฃ Lose your shirt = lose a lot of money
8๏ธโฃ Wear your heart on your sleeve = show your emotions openly
Now here is the one that should speak directly to every PTE student right now:
Number 5. Pull up your socks.
If your practice scores are not where you need them to be, it is not too late. But it is time to pull up your socks and get serious about your preparation.
Your turn ๐
๐ฌ Use any idiom from this list in a sentence in the comments. Make it about your PTE journey, your life, anything. Letโs see how creative you can get.
Save this post so you can come back to it before your next Speaking or Writing practice.

Save this post and test yourself tomorrow.
Cover the definitions and see how many you already know. The ones you get wrong?

๐๐ฃ๏ธ 23 IDIOMS THAT WILL MAKE YOUR ENGLISH SOUND FLUENT OVERNIGHT ๐ฃ๏ธ๐
Let me tell you a story using todayโs idioms. See how many you can spot ๐
Maria thought PTE was going to be a piece of cake. She had been burning the midnight oil for weeks, studying every night after work. But when her first mock score came back, she realised her low score was just the tip of the iceberg. There were gaps in her preparation she had completely missed.
She was in hot water.
For a moment she thought about cutting corners and just booking the exam anyway. But deep down she knew she could not turn a blind eye to the problem. So instead she decided to leave no stone unturned.
She went the extra mile. She raised the bar for herself. And on exam day, even under pressure, she weathered the storm.
Her result? Worth its weight in gold.
Save this post. Read the story again tonight and see how naturally the idioms land the second time.
That is exactly how your brain learns to use them in your own Speaking and Writing responses.

โ๏ธ๐ฅ YOUR PTE WRITING SCORE IS SUFFERING BECAUSE OF THESE WORDS ๐ฅโ๏ธ
โVery important.โ
โA lot of people.โ
โI think this is good.โ
If any of those phrases just appeared in your last practice essay... we need to talk.
Here is the hard truth. Simple words are not wrong. But in an academic English test like PTE, they signal a limited vocabulary range. And your score reflects that directly.
The fix takes less than 5 minutes to learn.
Now read your last essay back and count how many times you used the words on the left. Then replace them with the words on the right.
That one edit alone will make your writing sound more academic, more precise and more like someone who deserves a high score.
Save this post right now. Screenshot it. Put it next to you every time you practice writing.
And if you want a full study plan that covers Writing, Speaking, Reading and Listening all in one place, my FREE PTE Study Kit is the perfect starting point.

๐ง ๐ฅ 24 WORD SWAPS THAT WILL INSTANTLY MAKE YOUR PTE ANSWERS SOUND SMARTER ๐ฅ๐ง
Here is a challenge for you.
Read these two sentences and tell me which student scores higher:
Student A: โGovernments need to find ways to stop pollution and keep the environment safe.โ
Student B: โGovernments are required to identify strategies to prohibit pollution and preserve the environment.โ
Same idea. Same meaning. Completely different score.
That is the power of synonyms in PTE Academic. And it applies to every single section. Writing, Speaking, Reading comprehension, all of it.
The good news? You do not need to invent new ideas. You just need better words for the ones you already use.
Here are 24 swaps to start using today ๐
COMMON = frequent / widespread ASK = enquire / request BUILD = construct / develop CHOOSE = select / determine FAST = rapid / swift FIND = discover / identify KEEP = retain / preserve LIMIT = restrict / constrain NEED = require / demand CAUSE = trigger / generate SHARE = distribute / convey RISE = ascend / escalate REDUCE = diminish / lessen ALLOW = permit / authorise DESCRIBE = outline / portray EXPECT = anticipate / predict FOCUS = concentrate / prioritise LEAD = guide / direct MEASURE = assess / evaluate PLAN = organise / strategise PREVENT = prohibit / hinder SOLVE = resolve / address SUGGEST = propose / recommend KNOW = recognise / comprehend

๐โฝ๏ธ 8 SPORT IDIOMS THAT WILL MAKE YOUR ENGLISH SOUND NATIVE โฝ๏ธ๐
Here is the thing about idioms.
They show up in natural spoken English, but a lot of students donโt study them.
So letโs fix that right now ๐
1๏ธโฃ Throw in the towel = give up or admit defeat
2๏ธโฃ Step up to the plate = take responsibility or face a challenge
3๏ธโฃ The ball is in your court = it is your decision now
4๏ธโฃ Hit it out of the park = do something extremely well
5๏ธโฃ Get the ball rolling = start something
6๏ธโฃ Level playing field = a fair situation for everyone
7๏ธโฃ Move the goalposts = change the rules or expectations unfairly
8๏ธโฃ Keep your eye on the ball = stay focused on the task
Now here is a challenge for you ๐
๐ฌ Use ANY of these idioms in a sentence in the comments. Bonus points if you make it about your PTE journey.
I will start: The ball is in your court. You have the study material. You have the time. The only question is whether you are going to get the ball rolling today.
Save this post for your next Speaking or Writing practice session. Using even one idiom naturally can elevate your response from good to impressive.
And if you want a full structured plan to hit your target PTE score, my FREE PTE Study Kit is waiting for you.

๐๐ฑ PHRASAL VERBS ARE DESTROYING YOUR PTE LISTENING SCORE AND YOU DO NOT EVEN KNOW IT ๐ฑ๐
Here is what happens.
You are sitting in your PTE Listening task. The audio is playing. Everything is going fine until the speaker says โwe decided to call off the meetingโ and your brain freezes for half a second trying to process it.
Half a second is all it takes to miss the next sentence.
That is what phrasal verbs do when you have not studied them. They are everywhere in natural spoken English and the PTE Listening section is full of them.
The frustrating part? Once you know them they are actually simple. Two or three words that together mean something completely different to what you would expect.
Now your turn ๐
๐ฌ Use any phrasal verb from this list in a sentence in the comments. Bonus points if it relates to your PTE study journey.
I will start: Do not let a slow start let you down. You can always make up for lost time if you narrow down your focus and count on a solid study plan.
Save this post and review it before your next Listening practice session.
And if you want that solid study plan I just mentioned, my FREE PTE Study Kit is waiting for you through the link in my bio.

๐จโ ๏ธ IF YOU WRITE โWEโ IN YOUR PTE ESSAY YOU ARE LOSING MARKS โ ๏ธ๐จ
I know. Nobody told you this.
And thatโs exactly why so many test takers are shocked when their Writing score comes back lower than expected.
Hereโs the problem:
โWeโ is informal. PTE Academic Writing requires a formal, academic tone. The moment you write โwe should protect the environmentโ or โwe need to take actionโ... the AI scoring system picks it up.
It sounds like a conversation, not an essay.
The fix is simple. Replace โweโ with a specific subject:
๐ young people
๐ adults
๐ local residents
๐ urban populations
๐ rural communities
๐ people around the world
๐ many people
๐ a large number of individuals
๐ the majority of people
๐ a growing number of people
Save this list right now and use it every time you practice.
Instead of โWe should reduce plastic useโ try โA growing number of people believe plastic consumption must be reduced.โ
See the difference? That one swap alone makes your essay sound more academic, more structured and more score worthy.
This is exactly the kind of tip that separates a 65 from a 79+.
