I really do love chatting with business owners in the Software Development space! Having spent 15 years in that sector, it sometimes feels almost nostalgic.

I ran into Saulo Cavalcante at a Melville Cockburn Chamber of Commerce networking event, and it was evident that our short chat warranted a larger conversation.

Today I got to check out their offices in Freo (which was very hip), and meet his business partner Petr ฤŒervenka, who recognised me from a talk I did at last year's DDD on "๐ด๐‘Ÿ๐‘ก๐‘–๐‘“๐‘–๐‘๐‘–๐‘Ž๐‘™ ๐ผ๐‘›๐‘ก๐‘’๐‘™๐‘™๐‘–๐‘”๐‘’๐‘›๐‘๐‘’ ๐‘ฃ๐‘  ๐ธ๐‘š๐‘œ๐‘ก๐‘–๐‘œ๐‘›๐‘Ž๐‘™ ๐ผ๐‘›๐‘ก๐‘’๐‘™๐‘™๐‘–๐‘”๐‘’๐‘›๐‘๐‘’".

While our conversation started off rather nonchalantly, it quickly turned to the technological elephant in the room (pun intended). And that was AI.

And wow did our conversation go deep. We ruminated on the dangerous trajectory of AI, it's impact on the next generation, how it will reshape entrepreneurship and what future opportunities it may bring.

My view? The one key skill necessary in this new AI age will be ๐†๐ž๐ง๐ฎ๐ข๐ง๐ž ๐‡๐ฎ๐ฆ๐š๐ง ๐‚๐จ๐ง๐ง๐ž๐œ๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง! And those who master this skill (along with being able to leverage AI) will be the most successful people!

I thoroughly enjoyed my chat with Rueben Taylor, having first met him at a D32 Maxi event!

We connected over our shared background in Engineering, our touch points in Software Development and our transition into training and coaching.

What impressed me most about Rueben (along with his decades of experience) is that he is at heart a family man. And he has taken that passion for work life balance into his coaching.

His desire to see more business owners not get stuck in the daily operations of business life, but be more present for real life, especially with their families.

That is a sentiment I very much share, having made a firm decision early in starting my business to be emotionally present for my family right from the start.

It was truly such pleasure getting to know Sarah Blake!

I first of heard through my involvement on Sonshine FM and discovered that she is an expert in Conflict Management, Negotiation and Mediation.

Having done a few talks on the topic recently (and realising I have SO much to learn) I reached out to have a warm coffee on a cold day!

And I can safely say that the conversation we had was both warm and stimulating!

I got to learn of her story, having (much like myself) first been exposed to the topic of mediation through her father, never thinking she'd make it a career, but still being drawn into it so many years later.

What impressed me most was her heart for people and communities. And in the end, even the most corporate organisation is simply a group of people working and living together!

And all of us can learn to better navigate difficult conversations!

John Barclay and I come from such different worlds and yet share a common passion.

He's lived his professional life in the safety consulting space, sharing how he transitioned from working with a multinational to starting his own business. He talked about the ups and downs of the business growth and the impacts during the Covid time.

And while I cant say I have lot of exposure in the safety and risk area, there was one topic that really got our conversation going.

That was leadership development, and in particular, the use of the DISC personality model.

We shared stories of how we've seen different personality types interact, how conflicts can arise just because of different ways of working, and how a solid understanding of the model can make a huge difference in an organisation's culture and leadership.

I was most fascinated to find that John was instrumental in developing a DISC profile specifically within the context of safety and risk, assessing how different personality types view and respond to risks in the workplace!

Looking forward to hearing about what John is doing and supporting him where I can! And if your organisation needs some risk assessment or safety training, hit John up!

Sometimes the quickest way to change your mindset is to change your vocabulary.

Think about the language you use when something goes wrong.

Try replacing the words you use:
โŒ "This is a problem"
โœ… "This is a challenge"

โŒ "I'm a failure"
โœ… "I've learned something"

โŒ "This is scary"
โœ… "This is an adventure."

The situation hasn't changed.
But your perspective has.

The words you use shape how you ๐ญ๐ก๐ข๐ง๐ค.
How you think shapes how you ๐Ÿ๐ž๐ž๐ฅ.
And how you feel influences how you ๐ซ๐ž๐ฌ๐ฉ๐จ๐ง๐.

Pay attention to your internal dialogue.

It may be having a bigger impact than you realise.

The words you use to describe your circumstances influence how you feel, how you respond, and ultimately how you show up.

So ask yourself:

It's truly refreshing to chat with someone who deeply desires to build and invest into others.

Earlier today I have the privilege of chatting with Natalie Lincolne. She's spent over 18 years working with leaders and CEOs, providing mentoring, counciling, and guidance across multiple sectors.

I've attended many networking events, but this one was a bit different!

The night was hosted by Melville Cockburn Chamber of Commerce (MCCC). It had all the makings of a fantastic networking event - Food, Businesses, Connections and potential engagements. But it also had one unique feature.

Padel Ball.

Now I told my wife that I probably woudnt play given the high probability of ripping my pants. But when the crew from Raspa Property Group dared me on court, I couldnt say no!

And I can safely say that my pants remain intact!
