That's a wrap on Book Week!

It was a wonderful week of stories, imagination and sharing a love of reading across our Primary classrooms.

Our Primary students celebrated Book Week with a range of activities focused on stories, creativity and a love of reading.

Our Pre-Primary students enjoyed sharing favourite books with their classmates, listening to stories from Pre-Primary parents, and engaging in lovely book discussions.

Our Lower Primary students visited Joondalup Library, where they attended a special author presentation by Australian author and science communicator, Cristy Burne. Students learned about Cristyโ€™s writing journey, her adventures and the inspiration behind her books.

Our Upper Primary students also visited Joondalup Library as part of Book Week, attending a presentation by author Norman Jorgensen. Students discovered how real-life experiences, research and imagination come together to create memorable stories, characters and settings.

Thank you to the families, authors and Joondalup Library for helping make Book Week a wonderful celebration of reading, creativity and storytelling across our Primary classrooms.

Sushi Anyone? ๐Ÿฃ

Today, our Lower Secondary students made sushi for their long-table lunch. While they were busy preparing a delicious meal, they were also putting a wide range of academic and practical skills into action.

Academic learning included:

Mathematics โ€“ Cooking for more than 30 people requires careful planning, from calculating quantities and measurements to budgeting for ingredients.

English โ€“ Students followed and interpreted recipes, and communicated instructions!

Science โ€“ Food preparation provides opportunities to explore food chemistry, hygiene and what happens to ingredients as they are prepared.

Health โ€“ Students considered nutrition, food hygiene and dietary requirements when preparing a meal for a large group.

And then there are the skills that are just as important beyond the classroom:

Teamwork, communication, listening, problem-solving, organisation, time management and responsibility all played a part as students worked together to prepare lunch and ensure the menu catered for different dietary requirements.

A sushi lunch might sound simple, but there was a lot of learning happening along the way! ๐Ÿฃ

What a week! Our Lower Secondary students, as well as the oldest of our Upper Primary students, took part in two engaging hands-on learning experiences, exploring both the environment around us and the stories of the past.

Students welcomed the Parks and Wildlife Service, Western Australia and Nearer to Nature, for an interactive session focused on waterways and environmental management. They explored how different types of land use can affect rivers and waterways, and learned about strategies used to help protect and restore these important ecosystems.

Later in the week, students welcomed Archae-aus Education, for a session exploring archaeology and Australian history. Students participated in mini-excavations and explored a range of Aboriginal and historical artefacts while learning more about how archaeologists uncover stories from the past.

It was a week of learning, exploration and hands-on discovery for our Lower Secondary students.

๐’๐œ๐ข๐ž๐ง๐œ๐ž ๐–๐ž๐ž๐ค!

Last week was Science Week, with this yearโ€™s theme, Seeds of Science: Nurturing Knowledge for All.

Our Upper Secondary students certainly embraced the theme, putting on a science show for students from across the School.

โ€ข The session began with a science quizโ€”weโ€™ve put the science quiz in the comment section of this post. How much of your science knowledge can you remember?

โ€ข Then came the experiments! Students watched as the Upper Secondary students used gas to get a boiled egg into a beaker, extinguished a flame with an โ€œinvisible fire extinguisher,โ€ and demonstrated the fascinating effects of water tension.

What a wonderful way for our Upper Secondary students to share their knowledge, spark curiosity, and plant a few seeds of science across our School!

This week, we held our termly Parent Discussion Evening, allowing families to step inside our classrooms and see what their children are working on right now.

Some students displayed their art projects, while others shared their Mathematics books, current reading, or the Great Projects they are undertaking. Our younger students proudly chose some of their favourite Montessori materials to share with their families.

Parents also had the opportunity to chat with their childโ€™s teacher, ask questions and gain a little more insight into their childโ€™s experience at school.

The evening concluded with a presentation from one of our Lower Secondary Advisors, who gave families a fascinating insight into what happens in the Lower Secondary classroom โ€” and why adolescence is such a unique period of development.

For decades, our students have explored nature, worked in gardens and discovered the world through hands-on experiences outdoors.

These moments help children develop curiosity, responsibility and a lifelong appreciation for the environment.

WHAT A NIGHT!

Our very first Winter Warmer Community Event was a HUGE success!

There was chilli, curry, soup, loaded baked potatoes, hot chocolate, toasted marshmallows, sโ€™mores, music, games, and, most importantly, our wonderful community coming together!

And what a team effort it was!

A huge thank you to all the families who came along, our amazing food volunteers, everyone who helped behind the scenes, and the many people who jumped in to lend a hand when things got busy.

๐ŸŒถ๏ธ The food? Absolutely incredible.
โ˜• The hot chocolate? Very popular!
๐Ÿ”ฅ The marshmallows? A definite hit!
๐ŸŽถ The entertainment? Fantastic!
โค๏ธ Our community? The best part of all.

We also loved seeing our students getting involved! A special shout-out to our Lower Secondary students, who managed the Hot Chocolate Station, and our Upper Primary students, who helped manage the marshmallow sales. We were so proud to see them playing such an active role in the evening.

Thank you to our community for making our first Winter Warmer one to remember!
