The Beginning of a New Conversation
Today we began working with a young 4-year-old Thoroughbred ex-racehorse who had developed a pattern of biting, kicking, barging into people and displaying very aggressive behaviours toward his humans.
As with many horses, the behaviour itself wasn’t the problem; it was the lack of leadership.
Through the Infinity Equestrian Bulletproof Foundation System™, we introduced clear, fair, consistent boundaries that allowed him to finally understand where his responsibility began and where the human’s space ended.
The focus of today’s session was simple:
* Respecting personal space
* Backing up from light pressure
* Not barging through the human
* Not evading sideways
* Staying straight
* Learning to remain in “Park”
* Relaxing, breathing, thinking and processing and actually letting go of learned defensiveness
As the session progressed, we saw significant shifts.
The horse began to soften, to breathe and yawn, he licked and chewed often and lowered his head, thinking and blinking.
All the signs were right on point.
Most importantly, he began to understand that remaining in his own space created safety and clarity.
At the same time, his owners were learning an equally important lesson.
Leadership.
Through breathing, grounding and emotional regulation exercises, they learned how to regulate themselves and sets clear intention first before attempting to regulate their horse.
They discovered how to increase their energy and assertiveness when required; from a gentle request through to a firm boundary - while remaining fair, clear and emotionally neutral.
Because horses do not follow words. They follow energy, intention and leadership.
Following the groundwork session, Frankie from The Body Whisperer worked with the horse to release significant tension and discomfort throughout his body.
Particular restriction was found through the scapular region and the right side of the body where previous injuries had likely created protective patterns.
During treatment, the horse expressed some of the stored defensiveness and frustration he had been carrying, attempting to bite several times and delivering a powerful kick in response to discomfort and emotional tension being released.
These reactions provided valuable information.
Rather than punishment, they were understood as communication.
As the session continued, the horse became noticeably softer, more receptive to touch and increasingly trusting of the humans around him.
Once both the groundwork and bodywork sessions were complete, the owners returned to the arena where the new communication system was installed and practiced together.
After two hours everyone involved had a clearer understanding of how to communicate in a language the horse naturally understands - the language of the herd.
What was once defensiveness began transforming into trust.
What was once dominance began transforming into responsibility.
This is only the beginning of this family’s journey.
We also integrated the foundation into everyday situations and at feeding time, ensured consistency, safety and boundaries were in place for both horse and human.
The transformation of this misunderstood horse (who was rescued from a final fate) has begun and life changing shifts were witnessed today.
We love to see the change when humans become clear leaders, so their horses can finally soften and relax.
We’re incredibly excited to support this family as they continue building a partnership based on trust, leadership, communication and mutual understanding.
Because when we help humans become better leaders, horses get a better human experience.
