Sonas Gosnells - Reconciliation Week
National Reconciliation Week is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how we can contribute to reconciliation.
In early childhood settings, it provides an important opportunity to foster respect, inclusion, and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, cultures, and perspectives.
By embedding these values into everyday learning, we help children develop a strong sense of belonging, empathy, and appreciation for Australia's rich cultural heritage.

They have been enthusiastically roleplaying the different roles of shopkeeper and shopper, using communication, problem-solving and early numeracy skills as they engage in meaningful conversations and transactions.
Through this hands-on experience, children are building confidence, developing social connections and learning about the world around them in a fun and engaging way.

Sonas Spearwood - Simple Colour Object Patterns
Over the past few weeks, the children have been engaging in experiences focused on colour recognition and pattern exploration. Through hands-on learning opportunities, the children are developing their ability to identify colours, recognise patterns, and build early cognitive and mathematical thinking skills.
Today, the children participated in a familiar group experience using coloured star blocks to match colours and follow simple repeating patterns displayed on the table. Each child was encouraged to take turns and engage at their own level, allowing educators to observe individual strengths and provide support where needed.
During the experience, educators encouraged the children to:
1.) Recognise and name colours, with a focus on red, yellow, and blue
2.) Explore simple repeating patterns
3.) Develop turn-taking and group participation skills
4.) Build confidence when responding to questions and solving problems
5.) Strengthen concentration and early cognitive skills
Some children are continuing to develop their understanding of colour recognition, and occasional confusion between colours such as blue and purple is developmentally appropriate at this stage of learning. Educators will continue to provide intentional teaching experiences to support this emerging knowledge.

Sonas Wanneroo - Fruit Painting
At Sonas Early Learning & Care Wanneroo this week we explored fruit and vegetables in the STEAM room by investigating the different prints they create when used for stamping.
The children eagerly gathered around the paper and put on their aprons before selecting their chosen fruit or vegetable and beginning to create a collaborative artwork.
Some children used the fruit and vegetables to stamp different shapes, while others used them like brushes, making large movements across the page.
Throughout the activity, some of the group also explored colour mixing by combining different colours on the paper to discover the new colours they could create.

Sonas Gosnells - Out in the Community
The children at our childcare centre recently had the exciting opportunity to go on a train ride, taking advantage of our centre’s unique location on the train line.
This experience not only sparked curiosity and joy but also strengthened our connection to the local community, helping children develop a sense of belonging and awareness of their surroundings. Engaging with the wider community supports early childhood development by encouraging social interaction, observation skills, and real-world learning experiences.
This aligns closely with the National Quality Standards,
particularly Quality Area 1 (Educational Program and Practice) and Quality Area 6 (Collaborative Partnerships with Families and Communities), by fostering meaningful experiences that enrich children’s learning and promote strong community connections from an early age.
