Sometimes handwriting practice doesn’t look like handwriting practice. ✍️💚
Today’s cotton sand discovery quickly became a whole lot more than sensory play.
There was squeezing, pulling, stretching and squashing — all that resistance giving little hands a serious workout and building the hand and finger strength needed for pencil control.
But then came the questions…
🤔 Is it strong enough?
🧪 What happens if we stretch it further?
👀 How can we test it?
And suddenly we had a science experiment too.
That’s one of my favourite things about play-based learning: we can set up an experience with one idea in mind, then follow the children’s curiosity somewhere completely different.
Fine motor development.
Early science.
Problem solving.
Predicting and testing ideas.
And a LOT of very satisfying squishing.
All from a tub of cotton sand. 💚
