Tara Montessori

As part of our curriculum, we introduce the children to the different continents of the world. This month, we are continuing our exploration of the continent of Asia. As such, one of the activities in our classroom is a shadow-matching work featuring animals found in Asia, where children match each animal picture to its corresponding shadow.

Through this activity, the children develop their visual discrimination skills as they observe the different shapes and outlines of each animal. It also supports concentration, problem-solving, and early cognitive development while introducing the children to the diverse wildlife found across the Asian continent. 🌏🐅🐘

Happy Lunar New Year to all families celebrating! ✨

This week at Brockman, the children joyfully celebrated this special occasion by listening to the story of the 12 Chinese Zodiac animals. They then explored Chinese calligraphy, carefully attempting their own brush strokes and characters.

To end the week, the children made their own wontons — a traditional food commonly eaten during Lunar New Year as a symbol of wealth, prosperity, and fresh beginnings.

Each child also took home a small red packet filled with a “golden coin.”

Traditionally, red packets are given from elders to the younger generation to symbolise good luck, happiness, and prosperity for the year ahead. The colour red represents joy and protection, while the gold coin signifies wealth and abundance.

This gesture is a meaningful way for us to honour cultural traditions and share blessings with the children. We hope this small token brings excitement and helps them experience the spirit of generosity, celebration, and new beginnings that Lunar New Year represents.

We were delighted to be able to support our families this morning with a fully funded first aid course, given parents the opportunity to build confidence when it comes to first aid for their child! Our garden is looking beautiful and the children are loving the sunshine as we enjoyed the Noongar season of Kambarang that runs from October to November in southwest Western Australia, known as the "season of birth".
