La Finish File 🇫🇷

Filing at the very end of the mani - I’ve been doing this for years and not once has it negatively impacted a manicure or caused lifting/chipping

Note - I would only recommend it when you have a structured base of some sort, BIAB, hard gel etc

It actually strengthens the free edge area up! Plus makes your mani look clean and expensiveeeee 🤑

I use a nice thin file to really get in there 💪🏻 (this file was a little thick to be fair, but it did the job)

I can’t understand why everyone doesn’t do it?!? Takes 2 secs! *maybe a bit longer*

She chose BIAB for the colour 🙈

But it’s not what her nails needed! BIAB couldn’t give her the strength! She’s a busy mum, heavy handed and is washing and sanitising her hands all day

All of that combination = broken nail

(We had been doing hard gel previously and no issues!)

Luckily I know a super quick fix to mend a broken nail 👌🏻🥇 and it doesn’t require faffing around customising paper forms

The class I nearly didn’t run

Hard gel was something I spent a year hyperfixating/studying, testing products, fixing my own nail issues and my clients broken nails, downward growing nails etc

But i wondered if it was something that anyone would want training in? Im known for being one of the first Perth techs to use and be trained in BIAB and I’ve built a whole career off it for the past 6+ years, but I took a leap of faith and back in November I decided to teach the first introductory Hard Gel masterclass, where the students learnt all about different hard gels, prep, different nail fixes, overlays and working with hard gel

The industry has taught us to treat builder gel as the answer to everything, it has become the default for every manicure

This is not me shi*ting on builder gel! I LOVE builder gel and it’s great for certain nails

Builder gel belongs in the salon 💯 but so does hard gel

If the nails keep cracking in the same place, it may not just be your client being heavy handed

Most of the time it is:

⚡️Builder gel used on nails that need more strength
⚡️Focus being solely on the apex area and too much product being pulled away from the growth points, leaving that weak part exposed and weak
⚡️Too much filing in side walls (incorrect shape)
