To celebrate book week, we visited the local library to join in on the special story time--Meet WA children book author Sharon Gilstrow and listen to her reading her book--"Bedtime Daddy". The children enjoyed seeing the library and listening to the story. When we arrived home we decided to play dress up with their favourite story characters. 👏😄📚

The children have been learning and memorising the letters of the alphabet. This week we started on the letter P. Each time we learn a new letter we always colour and make a craft incorporating the letter. ☺️☺️

We watched Australia competing live in swimming and cheered on. The children also practiced their "100m" track and field sprint! Go Aussies 😆🇦🇺

Today we planned to bake a cake and the children were like very enthusiastic! We decided on a healthy lemon slice recipe and we began by cutting out traditional chefs hat. Then we gathered all the dry and wet ingredients and followed the method to create the batter. Soon it went into the oven and became a delicious lemon slice! The kids loved eating the delectable creation they had baked!

Due to the very wet weather we have been receiving, the children have been entertained with indoor crafts and games. Today we had a spider themed day and made spiders that could move along as you pulled the string. We made these and sang the song "Incy wincy spider" to go with it. We also played a game where the aim was to throw "insects" made out of newspaper to stick onto the "spider web" which was simply masking tape stuck across a door way. The kids loved it!

NAIDOC week is an important event that celebrates the traditional aboriginal culture and shedding light into the depths of our land’s history. All the children love to learn about the indigenous ways of life and a recap of this week follows as:
Day one: exploring the art of dot painting and creating masterpieces using natural recourses such as leaves and shells. We learnt that dot painting is to conceal their sacred designs which are used in for traditional ceremonies.
Day two: Designed our very own didgeridoos and discovered how didgeridoos are used and there origination.
Day three: The children read a book, “backyard birds” which we saw traditional birds in an indigenous art style.
Day four: We re-used a cardboard tube box to paint the rainbow serpent along with two boomerangs and small animals.

Over this entire week children practised their fine motor skills, understanding of aboriginal history and developed a stronger vocabulary.
But most importantly, the children had heaps of fun!
