Your High Risk Work licence card gets scratched, cracked, or goes missing altogether.

It happens.

The licence itself doesn't disappear with the card. WorkSafe WA holds the record, and replacing the card is a straightforward process through them directly.

Head to the WorkSafe WA website, complete the replacement document application, and pay the $29 fee. WorkSafe WA issues the new card once it's processed.

This is a WorkSafe WA process, not something Paratus manages directly — we can't reissue or reprint a card ourselves. If you're not sure where to start, ask us and we'll point you the right way.

Worth keeping a photo of your card somewhere safe, just in case.

CTF can pay part of your course fee back, if your training and your work on site line up. Here's how it actually works.

The Construction Training Fund is a Western Australian government body. It is funded by a levy paid on construction projects, and it uses that money to subsidise training for people working in WA construction.
The levy is the part paid on a project.

The rebate is the part that can come back to you on approved training.

Our courses are the kind of occupational licensing and safety training the rebate covers, so you may be eligible. Whether you personally can claim comes down to your own circumstances, mainly your employment and the projects you are actually working on. CTF assesses every claim individually.

How claiming works:
🔸 Pay for the course and complete it.
🔸 Keep two things, your paid invoice and your Statement of Attainment.
🔸 Lodge the claim yourself through CTF's own portal.
🔸 CTF assesses it and pays out to you directly.

One thing worth doing before you book. Ask your employer which projects you are on, and whether they will look at putting you through more training. Plenty of employers claim for their crew rather than leaving it to the individual, and some will fund the upskilling outright if someone asks.

Most people have never used the extinguisher they walk past every day.

CPPFES2005 Demonstrate first attack firefighting equipment is a four hour course.

You handle the extinguishers and the hose reel yourself, and you work out which one belongs on which fire before you ever have to make that call under pressure.

It is not only for people working on site.
Anyone can do it.

A fire in a kitchen, an office or a home workshop starts the same way, and the first few seconds belong to whoever is standing closest. Knowing which extinguisher to reach for, and knowing when to leave it alone and get everyone out, is worth the half day on its own.

Before the truck goes anywhere, someone checks every wheel.

That's how the day starts on RIIVEH305F — Operate and maintain a four wheel drive vehicle: pre-op checks first, then out onto the bush track to put it into practice.

Recovery is part of the course, not an accident. The truck gets deliberately bogged so the group can work through the real sequence: assess the risk, pick the right gear, find a rated attachment point, and recover it properly.

If you have been driving a forklift for years without a ticket, Friday is your chance to get it in a day.

We normally run TLILIC0003 Licence to operate a forklift truck training over two days. This Friday's intake is a shorter version, built for operators with real time on the machine: minimal training, then the full theory and practical assessment.

$500. Friday 28th August at our Bayswater facility.

What it gets you is a Statement of Attainment and a Notice of Assessment. The licence itself comes from WorkSafe WA, and you apply to them separately once you have the paperwork in hand (we can help you with that too).

If you have been operating on someone's say-so for years, or planning to get back on a forklift after years away, this is a short way to hold the licence for it.

If you have got no tickets at all, there is one that has to come first.

The White Card. CPCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry.

It is the general construction induction, and you need it before you set foot on a construction site anywhere in Australia. Half a day at Bayswater, and the card is issued on the day once you have successfully completed the training.

Then you can pick the machine ticket that matches the work you actually want to do. Forklift, elevating work platform, scissor lift, crane.

That order matters. A machine ticket does not replace the White Card. If the job is on a construction site, you need both, and plenty of people have it the wrong way round.

A 2 tonne lift can still need a licensed operator. Here is the math most people get wrong.

It is not the weight of the load. It is not the size of the truck. It is capacity multiplied by radius.

Lift 2 tonnes at a 5 metre radius and that is 10 metre tonnes.

WorkSafe WA is specific about it: if any lifting capacity shown on the crane’s load chart is rated at 10 metre tonnes or more, the operator must hold a CV High Risk Work Licence. The chart decides, not the truck.

So go and read yours. It is the one document that answers this, and it is already in the cab.

If any lifting capacity shown on that chart is rated at 10 metre tonnes or more, whoever operates the crane needs a CV High Risk Work Licence. A lot of loader cranes on WA worksites sit over that line. It is worth checking the plate rather than assuming.

Next intake runs Monday 24th to Friday 28th August at Bayswater.

You will cover load charts, load estimation and the slinging techniques for the crane you are operating, plus the setup calls people usually learn the hard way. Successful completion gives you a Statement of Attainment and a Notice of Assessment, which you use to apply to WorkSafe WA for the licence itself.

One thing worth knowing before you book. If you already hold a slewing mobile crane licence, you are covered for this work already. WorkSafe WA states that any High Risk Work Licence issued for slewing mobile crane operation also entitles the holder to operate vehicle loading cranes at 10 metre tonnes or more. Check what is already on your card before you pay for another course.

C0, C1, C6, C2, CN, CV: a job ad that just says "must hold a crane licence" doesn't tell you which one someone actually needs.

The system is tonnage-based, and each class covers everything below it. C2 goes up to 20 tonnes, C6 up to 60, C1 up to 100, and C0 covers anything above that. CN and CV sit at entry level and cover their own equipment only — non-slewing cranes and vehicle loading cranes.

One thing most job ads miss: WorkSafe WA confirms a slewing mobile crane licence already covers vehicle loading crane work at 10 metre tonnes or more. Worth checking before anyone books a course they don't need.

The angle on that sling changes what it can safely carry.

CPCCLDG3001 Licence to perform do***ng covers this early in the course, because it's the kind of detail that gets skipped when someone's just told to hook it up and stand clear.

The wider the angle between the sling legs and vertical, the more load each leg is carrying, even though the total weight on the hook hasn't changed. Working that out before the load leaves the ground is a dogman's job, not a guess.
