We’re proud to be celebrating National Reconciliation Week through experiences that inspire curiosity, connection and respect.

🖤💛❤️ Welcome to National Reconciliation Week ❤️💛🖤

This week across our centres, we’re proud to acknowledge and celebrate National Reconciliation Week, a meaningful time to learn, reflect and strengthen our connection to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories, cultures and perspectives.

Throughout the week, our children and educators will be engaging in thoughtful learning experiences designed to spark curiosity, deepen understanding and foster respect for the world’s oldest continuing cultures. From storytelling and creative experiences to music & dance, language and shared conversations, we’re excited to create opportunities for meaningful learning and connection together.

We can’t wait to share what’s planned across our centres this week and celebrate these important moments with our community.

🦷✨ We recently welcomed Little Smiles Dentist to Tall Tree Early Learning Mullaloo for a very special visit with our children!

The children had a wonderful time learning all about the importance of keeping their teeth healthy and strong through fun, interactive activities and friendly conversations with the dental team. Visits like these help children build positive relationships with dental care from an early age, encouraging good oral hygiene habits and helping them feel confident about visiting the dentist. 😊

To make the day even more exciting, every child received their own little dental gift pack to take home — and there were lots of big smiles and excitement all around! 🎁🪥

A big thank you to Little Smiles Dentist for spending time with us and making dental health education such a fun and positive experience for our children! 💙

This week in the Kwila Room, the children have continued learning about people who help us in the community, with a special focus on lollipop men and women as part of Road Safety Week. Through hands-on experiences, the Kindy children strengthened their early literacy and fine motor skills by forming and writing the letter “R” for Road using playdough and whiteboards. To extend their understanding of staying road safe, the children participated in a local excursion with Educators Abbie and Danika, where they identified road signs and zebra crossings while practicing safe pedestrian behaviours such as holding hands, stopping, looking, and listening before crossing roads.

The excursion also provided opportunities for the children to collect natural materials for our upcoming Art Exhibition, fostering creativity, collaboration, and a connection with the natural environment. Following this experience, the children explored visual provocations of traditional Indigenous huts, caves, and fire pits before using clay and the natural resources gathered on Country to create their own representations for the exhibition. The children have thoroughly enjoyed participating in this meaningful hands-on learning experience and have shown great enthusiasm in being involved throughout the entire creative process.

Earlier in the week, we celebrated International Bee Day through a range of engaging and sensory-rich learning experiences. The children explored the importance of honeybees within our environment, discussing their habitats, characteristics, life cycle, and role in producing honey. Through sensory play, creative experiences, and a shape-matching activity, the children further developed their fine motor skills, early mathematical understanding, and problem-solving abilities while engaging in meaningful conversations and collaborative learning.

Our Kindy children certainly have been busy little bees themselves this week!

Over the past few weeks, our Bamba Room children have been exploring their connection to nature, the changing seasons, and learning about autumn alongside the Noongar season of Djeran and its connection to Country and land.

A highlight of our experiences has been the simple exploration of natural materials through hands-on play and discovery. Educator Claudia created a wonderful nature matching puzzle where children matched natural items to their outlined shapes. This experience supported children’s observation skills, problem-solving, visual discrimination, and connection to the natural environment.

The children have also been involved in planting seedlings and learning how to care for plants, developing responsibility, patience, and an understanding of growth and sustainability. Creativity has flourished through painting with natural materials such as leaves and twigs, using them as stamps to create unique artworks inspired by nature.

Another engaging experience involved sorting seeds by size and colour, encouraging early mathematical thinking, classification skills, and fine motor development. The children also explored sprouting dry beans, chickpeas, and black beans, carefully observing how they changed and grew over time. These experiences sparked conversations about life cycles, growth, and caring for living things.

As part of their exploration of seasonal change, the children observed the changing colours of leaves and created their own autumn branches using autumn-coloured tissue paper pressed onto twigs. They also collaboratively painted and decorated a large piece of fallen bark using autumn tones and collected leaves, which is now proudly displayed in the room as a shared artwork celebrating nature and creativity.

The Bamba Room is also in the process of creating a nature scrapbook. Families have been encouraged to contribute items and photographs from their weekend adventures and share what nature and land mean to them. This ongoing project strengthens children’s sense of belonging and connection between home, community, and the natural world.

This week in our Karil Room, Educator Sharon brought in some used coffee pods to recycle into a colour mobile. The children sat together outside with Sharon and Ashley and helped scoop the used coffee grinds from the pods, which they collected into buckets.

The pods were then cleaned out and strung from fallen branches to create fun, colourful, recycled mobiles which are now hanging in the room.

The collected coffee was also used by our Nursery children in our Tall Tree garden. Used coffee grounds act as a nutrient rich, slow-release fertilizer that adds nitrogen, magnesium and potassium to the soil which helps promote healthy leaf growth.

This process was an active way for our little learners to reuse and effectively recycle items and give household waste another purpose.

Last Friday we had so much fun hosting our annual Mother’s Day Afternoon Tea and were lucky to have been joined by lots of our Centre mums and other significant women that play such an important role in the lives of our enrolled children.

Across the Service we enjoyed a wide variety of activities that allowed our children time to engage in meaningful moments with their loved ones, as well as enjoy some yummy treats, beautifully prepared for us by Paulette and Amber. Afternoons like this also allow time for our educators and families to come together in a relaxed social setting, share stories and meet the families of their child’s day care friends.

A big thanks to all who could attend, it was wonderful to see so many people able to come along and join us for the afternoon.

Fire Fighters Day 🚒

Over the past few weeks, our Mullaloo learners have been exploring all things fire safety and firefighters.

Within the Kwila room, the children have been focusing on community services and, in light of Fire Fighters Day and Week, have been learning about firefighter uniforms, fire protection, who to call in the event of a fire, what to do during an emergency, and how fires can start.

These concepts have also been explored throughout the service in age-appropriate ways within our younger rooms, helping all children begin to build an understanding of safety, helpers in our community, and emergency awareness.

What an awesome week of learning across our service! 🚒🔥

Dune Rejuvenation with Rani!

Today, the children ventured out on a special excursion to help restore our local sand dunes alongside Rani. Together, we explored the importance of caring for our coastline and protecting the ecosystems around us by removing weeds from the sand and fertilising newly planted native species. Through experiences like this, the children are developing an understanding of sustainability, environmental responsibility, and the importance of caring for the world around them.

This experience also connected deeply to Aboriginal perspectives and learning. We discussed how Aboriginal peoples have cared for Country for thousands of years through respect for nature, sustainable practices, and protecting the land and waterways for future generations. By taking part in restoring the dunes, the children were able to actively engage in these important values and develop a deeper connection to Country.

During our excursion, Rani introduced us to a native plant called the coastal daisy bush. The children learnt that this hardy Australian plant is well adapted to coastal environments, thriving amongst strong winds, salty air, and dry sand. Rani also shared how Aboriginal peoples traditionally used the plant by squeezing the leaves in their hands and rubbing it on their bodies as a natural insect repellent, a beautiful example of learning from and living alongside nature.
What a meaningful morning of learning, caring for Country, and connecting with our community 🌿
